Sad, but true. Plato's 'Republic' has some good ideas. Namely, being in power comes with a lot of drawbacks and no personal luxury. Thus, only those driven by selflessness to serve their fellow man to the best of their ability get there. There are also many people to keep them in check, with no scope for corruption. Politics would be very different if those in power led austere, virtuous lives.
Such people do exist, but they rarely get a sniff of power. In /tv/ terms I suppose the High Sparrow is a little like that, though I expect he's pulling some kind of scam and he's no different from the rest of them.
