I like that concept of combining Jon and Stannis though. That would make for some much better story telling and suspense. As another anon pointed out there could be a sort of Kenobi-Skywalker relationship between Stannis and Jon as Jon learns more about warfare and tactics from Stannis, and Jon tells Stannis exactly how to win the support of the North. Plus if you combine their storylines over the last two seasons, in stead of retreading ground by having them basically repeat the same storyline, that gives you more room to develop the Northern Conspiracy.
It would have made for great television. The hype at the turn of the tide when the Manderly banners show up first, and there is a feeling of impending doom for Jon, but soon they are joined by Baratheon banners, and this is the signal for the Smalljon to turn on the Karstarks. Such a shame.
