Currently rewatching and on season 4. It makes me remember the times when HBO doesn't assume it's audience is retarded.
There was the joke ab Snyder not being on the case of season 2. Was that a breaking the third wall thing? Cause a lot of people totally forget about him while watching the show and I am sure I did the first two runs. He doesn't really do anything most of the time apart from being effective.
>>
>>71134974
that's not a joke, that's a statement of fact
>>
>>71135006
Yes but how come the character forgot about him not being there? That seems highly unlikely and more like a tongue in cheek thing regarding the audience.

Season 4 being so good absolutely boggles the mind given child actors are generally fucking awful.

Also fucking PREZBO becoming my favourite character was something I never saw coming.

Oh, it's Sydnor. Sorry.
>>
>>71135104
Him being the new McNulty at the end of S5 didn't make much sense given he was pretty much a non character. Carver was far more of a street-smart cop by the end.

>>71135233
Well it was not one character replacing another. More likes roles being divided up - like Kima who turns into McNulty regarding her private life. Sydnor always played it straight but never got to the bad boys. I am okay with him being frustrated at some point.
>>
>>71135274
It was boring. MUH WORKING CLASS POLLACK PROBLEMS. Only saving grace was dockboy's girlfriend's tits.

Did you just watch the show for Herc cracking heads or something?
>>

>have a great fucking time

Does it have any flaw? Have HBO ever even thought of milking this series out? It's fucking pristine, you couldn't improve it.
>>
>>71135919
Some of the acting doesn't hold up very well. Especially in season 1 and 5. I actually think this is the reason people hate season 5.
>>
>>71134902
I can't watch shows with black people in them.
>>

some of the acting and some of the lines are a bit heavyhanded at times

also the arc of season 5 of course

It's a fantasy show about excusing blacks for their violent criminal behavior by blaming invisible power structures. I liked it when i was in high school because it was well-written and more in-depth than most programs, but rewatching it I can't stand the politics or the half-baked philosophy or the corny characters who are mostly just fawning liberal caricatures. Had to stop watching when this guy came up, I just couldn't take it seriously any more

>>71136951
The power structure thing is certainly there and there are characters who are not realistic at all (which for me intensifies the feel of realism towards the other characters and settings but nvm). The thing you are forgetting/disregarding is that every major characters had a choice. Bubs had the choice to stop doing drugs and at some point he did and got his act together. There was no invisible power structure stopping him. Same for example for Marlo: He had the chance to stop being in the game and didn't. Again free will at play. Daniels had the choice to stop being Carcettis bitch and he did. Even Omar had the choice of staying in the fucking carribean of whatever. Of course the choices are limited for each character/class/race/gender but no one is pre-determined in the show.
You can go ahead and acting all "red pilled" but the truth is that the show displays both: Invisible power structures of a rigged game and the extend in which people can act in them. The message that Americans black have less opportunities i.e. less of a choice is an empirically grounded one. This is why people are confused about season 2 I think.
>>
>>71137165
Also:
>The only people who really dislike the second season are white people. People got mad that they moved it out of the hood. And look, there might be an element that the character is annoying, but there’s that feeling of familiarity too. That the blue collar worker might hit a little close to home rather than the projects of East Baltimore. Ziggy is more like a family member you might have; there’s not this cognitive dissonance. You’re much more likely to know someone like Ziggy than to know someone like Omar.
>And Ziggy is a very castrated white male. And when people see that there’s no room for social mobility, I think it reflects back on themselves: their own delusions about their own social mobility.

>>
>>71137189
To add to your post: Dookie could've gone to vocational school instead of living the scrap metal cart life
>>
>>71136951

it doesn't really excuse much of their behaviour desu, most it does is make you feel sorry for the kids - i can't think of a character who i think was good or absolved of the actions they took

also mouzone is based upon a real guy, and with the influence of nation of islam upon certain blacks and the way they often dressed/acted is mouzone really that surprising/odd?
>>
>>71135233
Carver also never burnt bridges or ignored the chain of command to make a case. And he made rank. Sydnor helped make the serial killer's phone call.
>>
>>71137189
Is that really the general consensus? That ziggy and the second season are disliked?
>>
>>71137189
>armchair psychoanalysis that involves the projection of his own racial self-hatred and feelings of castration onto millions of white viewers is why people didn't care about some irritating pole unloading cargo for ten episodes in a row
fun fact: the only people who bothered to watch this show outside of Baltimore were white
>>
>>71135919

Thing is that I doubt you understand how humanities operate. Not a single event in history can be replicated and yet empirical studies are the foundation on which modern history is working.
I brought the Shoa thing up cause holocaust-deniers often point out that the Frankfurt School and Jews in general suppress research on the holocaust especially in Germany when in fact exactly the opposite is the case. Also I am not fond of the Frankfurt School at all but I am able to talk about it without having foam on my mouth.
And since you are implying that I am not doing the world any service: My scholarship is directly linked to my voluntary activities providing free education for young students from a working class background. Not that I feel superior because of that (I do like 4 hours a week) but you are really barking up the wrong tree about altruism since chemistry is really not much more than working for big business. My brother and my uncle both are chemists and had a really hard time finding an employer that is not in bed with the military-industrial complex. Guess that this might be a German thing though.

no simon was a journalist who worked at the sun and hated a particular journalist and probably a few others who were just making up shit to sell papers, so this personal experience in an institution he probably holds dear isn't going to have the most nuanced take from simon

it's also kinda obvious that gus was basically a simon self insert

i don't know about particular rips but you might want to look into whether you want the 16:9 or 4:3 ratio, bearing in mind that simon specifically shot it for 4:3

In German those people are literally working for Nazi companies. My family is from the GDR and they are all sort of disappointed communists. For them these companies are literally the worst of Western society. I am partial about that since I can only see them following the mechanics laid out by society/laws.

Might just grab the DVD then.

SD is fine, don't bother with the Blu-ray.

Fine. I concede. Power rankings are 4>2>3>1>5. Everyone knows this

Don't really listen to Simon's concerns, the show looks gorgeous in HD especially season 4
>>
season 2 was the only season i liked even though i guess it's the most hated. maybe i just don't like niggers and it's an impossibility for me to empathize with them on any level

I wonder if Japanese people feel weird working for companies associated with WWII Japanese companies. Only reason I wonder this is because Japan was much worse than Germany was in my eyes. Russia too. I'm not a Holocaust denier or anything like that but it always seemed to me that the average guy had no idea that shit was going on.
>>
>>71140316
I don't think the average Jap knew about shit like Unit 731 too
>>
>>71140316
Interesting point although I guess a lot of Jap companies are much older than the war whereas the German companies (Krupp, Oetker, the list goes on) really grew because of the war.

Correct

It was just a thought. It sucks to think of how good Germany, Nazism could have been if Hitler had just just stopped in 1938. I've always had a fascination with WWII. Its surreal to think about.
>>
>>71140652
Well it's the collective effort and the ceasing of liberal politics. By now we live in a world in which every collective action is labeled communist. The Nazis fucked that up too.

Yeah they shit the bed.

Is it worth watching seasons 3+ ?
The first 2 were good but the beginning of s03 doesn't look promising.

Daily reminder that this is your average The Wire fanboy. What a thoroughly pleb show.

don't listen to /tv/ memelords, watch it all, season 5 isn't as good as the rest but it's still better put together than most other things on tv.

The "fake serial killer" plotline was fucking ridiculous
