For example I was actually very amazed at the Metropolis destruction scene at the beginning, where Wayne felt like an ant in a storm of thunder, but this can also backfire, when he lacks restraint or self control and let's performances like Eisenberg Lex slide and hits you over the head with imagery that you got in the first place and makes it feel stale and obnoxious almost, not only to me but to many others.
I get that he is no Tarkovskij when it comes to visual storytelling, but he ruins many scenes by drowning them in spectacle or symbolism he tries to convey, which makes him almost as bad as Michael Bay at his worst.
I still think he has it in him, but he needs to exercise restraint a bit more.

On paper it's nothing special, nothing complex, but the execution makes it compelling. The direction has you feel the burden and the struggle to remain strong in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds. Snyder has a great ability to have you empathize with a character even if the context of the scene isn't particularly complex.
