I like the Knight of Cups change.
More discussion to ensue once the Ultimate Cut comes out.

it's great

It doesn't get more juvenile "film buff" than Villenvue. Everything from the casting, to the themes, to the cinematography. It physically pains me to even think about it. Fincher was always the epitome of IMDB to me until this movie, but then Villenvue managed to topple him.

AN EXPERIMENTATION IN THE CINEMATIC COMMUNICATION
Of visual phenomena
WITHOUT THE USE OF INTERTITLES
(a film without intertitles)
WITHOUT THE HELP OF A SCENARIO
(a film without a scenario)
WITHOUT THE HELP OF THEATRE
(a film without actors, without sets, etc.)
This new experimentation work by Kino-Eye is directed towards the creation of an authentically international absolute language of cinema – ABSOLUTE KINOGRAPHY – on the basis of its complete separation from the language of theatre and literature.

How is it that

Sucker Punch is literally live action anime
OGF is vapid visuals with a shitty metaphor slapped on top
Noah is a flick
Also, why is every movie from the 21st century? Was this made by a /v/ baby?
>>

There's stuff I enjoy in all these movies, but Inherent Vice is far and away the best on the chart.

Everything has the intention to convey the feeling of what a non cinephile would consider "a good film". It's a prime example of how people can't tell the difference between decent cinematography and and what actually creates a good film. And because it's so conventional and sparse, it's easily accessible by superhero movie fans looking to reach out to something more thought provoking. It's riddled with pretentious cliches, contrived story elements, pointless imagery, failure at building tension and a lack of impact on the viewer, made for to convey a conceited sense of false profundity and highfalutin grandiloquence. It's an empty, thoughtless, faux-intellectual mess, and rating it makes you an appreciator of media consumption over an appreciator of art.

This, and both are painfully underrated
>>

I just sat down and watched Enter the Void today.
I want those hours back.
It was a beautifully shot movie, and that's it.
Never have I been so disinterested in a set of characters.

I'm sure this makes me a straight edge pleb who doesn't understand good cinematography.
>>
>>71081767
can't even imagine thinking inherent vice is better than antichrist
>>
>>71081738
>>71081759
It's the "chart full of great selections with a couple of extremely bad ones" meme, oldest in the book.
OGF, Vice, Knight of Cups, Antichrist, Enter the Void, and lost River are excellent films.
>>
>>71081639
>He thinks movies should be made for audiences and not simply reflections of the creators id

wew lad
>>
>>71081864
Enter the Void is 95% about the visuals, it was 3 hours of Gaspar Noe beating himself off. If you share his love for atmosphere and immersive, dreamlike shots, you'll love it. If not, you won't.
>>
>>71081926
Ok can someone enlighten me? Is kino the new word for what used to be called arthouse? It's use is starting to just come across as pretentiousness rather than being indicative of anything in specific.
>>
>>71081815

>long brooding shots of fucking nothing
What is creating atmosphere?

>zero build up to any of the films climaxes
Vague generalization.

>comical horror imagery
This is subjective.

>cinematography compensating for bad story telling
Subjective.

>talking in middle English cliche
The Setting took place in 17th century Puritan New England when most people learned to read from the bible and thusly spoke that way. Did you want them to speak to each other in modern accents?

>embarrassing ending
What was embarrassing about the ending? Thomasin lost everything she had. Was the most pure out of everyone in her family but still succumbed to the power of the devil.

Honestly, you have shit opinions and tastes. Maybe if you payed attention to what you were watching instead of mindlessly consuming it you'd get something out of the experience.
>>
>>71082108
That's the issue. Kino can mean arthouse or amazing but inaccessible films, but now it also means shitty and poorly rated films that have something like only visuals going for it. Sucker punch is not fucking kino.

In the case of this list, kino applies to divisive films with a strong visual aspect and unique plot. While I enjoyed Lost River or EtV, I wouldn't consider them kino. If I were to unironically use kino, it would be more selectively and only for flawless and visually masterful films, such as knight of cups

Sucker Punch was a treatise on the objectification of women as seen through the eyes of various nerd subcultures. The prism by which the movie is shown self reflects to the viewer their own ugliness.

It's a hypnotizing take on psychological trauma. It cleverly turns it into an esoteric, theatrical, fantasy extravaganza. Its own nakedness makes people feel shameful and uncomfortable.

It's a movie that literally hates its own audience and spits on them.

>"“I wanted to rub the human race in its own vomit, and force it to look in the mirror.”" - J.G. Ballard

If that isn't true kino, I don't fucking know what is.
>>
>>71082349
>he actually unironically uses the word "kino"
>he actually believes what he says
>>
>>71079387
Literally no reason for The Witch to be on there. Like none whatsoever.
>>
>>71082314
You have terrible taste and are deluding yourself into thinking you have any merit in the cinematic world. You see decent cinematography and nothing else and base your judgement on that. Stop trying to appreciate anything beyond capeshit because your embarrassing attempt at justifying trash is making me feel sorry.
>>
>>71082853

lol you have zero argument against what I said and are going straight into a personal attack because of it. You're pathetic. I haven't seen a capeshit movie since the first Captain America movie. The only reason you don't like the Witch is because you didn't understand it. You need to be spoon-fed everything like the little baby you are. Kill yourself anon, seriously. You sound like a prentious bitch.

>lol you have zero argument against what I said
Your "argument" was entirely based on subjectivity. There is literally no point in me bothering to effect the opinion of a deluded idiot.

>going straight into a personal attack because of it. You're pathetic.
How idiotically hypocritical of you. Reminder that the conclusion of previous argument consisted of ad hominem. Stop bothering to apply argument rhetoric for a baseless opinion from an tasteless faggot.

>The only reason you don't like the Witch is because you didn't understand it. You need to be spoon-fed everything like the little baby you are.
So now you're basically strawmanning me in order to apply your sick burns and weak ad hominem to feel as if your opinion is worth a damn, when it's no better than a shitpost from an underaged redditor.

> Kill yourself anon, seriously.
You don't even know the definition of that word and the film you're desperately defending is exactly that.

Stop posting you pathetic pleb.
