Salsa is trying to take Winterfell for herself, she's just an idiot about it and that's why the show appears to have horrible writing. It makes so much more sense if you watch it through Salsa's eyes and how choices are made.
Salsa wants Jon out of the way so no one can contest her when she assumes power. Rickon being alive almost fucked things up even more, and Jon wanted to go save the true heir to Winterfell. What did she do? "Oh no Jon lol, he's lost to us".
Salsa also wanted Jon Snow to die during the battle with Ramsey. This is why she kept CIA a big secret until the last moment. In fact she did thing he died during the battle while she was watching, but instead he fell beneath a pile of bodies and got trapped. She thought he died, so that's when she had CIA come in. It wasn't a last minute rescue LOTR style, she was literally waiting until he was killed to have CIA ride in to the rescue. But he wasn't killed, he clawed his way out. She wasn't smirking, she was pissed that he lived.
Next episode Littlefinger will again come onto Salsa. She'll accept his hand in marriage, but only if Littlefinger kills Jon like he did with Joffery.
