It's a timeless classic m8.

What was the riddle of steel, anyway? This movie was very confusing, I didn't get it at all.
>>
>>71047803
Conan's father and his people believed that steel was the strongest

Thulsa Doom believed that flesh was stronger

In the end Conan rejects both teachings in favour of willpower being the strongest
>>
>>71047803
>>71047693
stop with the bait already
>>
>>71047846

Yeah but steel sent Thulsa's fleshy snake head bouncing down those steps so I'd say he still was right.
>>
>>71047896
but Conan would have never gotten there in the first place without his willpower to survive against all odds

Soundtrack adds so much to the movie it's not even funny.

Like poetry, but in a good way before Lucas ruined it for everyone.

Conan is great. Conan the Destroyer is fun.
Kull was okay. Saved by Sorbo's charisma and Tia Carrere's everything. I'm glad they changed Conan to Kull though, it would have been a bad Conan sequel. As a stand-alone Kull film, it's fine.

Riddle of steel is the question - what makes the steel in your hands powerfull?
Is it the might of the flesh? Or the technology in the steel? No, it's the will that chooses what to do with it.
Riddle of steel was different in the books though I think.
>>
>>71047803
It's a paradox with no true answer. Steel cuts flesh, but flesh wields steel. The truly powerful man controls both a men's hearts and their arms.
>>
>>71048772
JUST A MAN
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85j2rb-kyjY
>>
The only thing dated about Conan The Barbarian is that animatronic giant snake he fights.
>>
>>71047846
Close, but not quite. The riddle of steel is, "Which is stronger? The steel, or the hand that wields it?"

Conan discovers the answer is both. They make each other strong. A sword without a man is nothing, and a man without a sword is nothing. But put them together, and you have something.
>>
>>71048846
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5VY0AzmGkH8
>>
>>71048850
I think it looks pretty good. It's not the best animatronic I've ever seen, but it's certainly passable.
>>
>>71048805
>>71048872
Truth; neither is strong without the other.
>>
>>71047693

I thought the opposite, actually. The armor fit the setting very well, and there wasn't a lot of flashy shit happening. You only really notice it with the snake transformation/snake animatronic.
>>
>>71048618
>Lucas
What do you mean? George Lucas was involved with the series?
>>
>>71047693
No, we can't. I watched it recently and it's still a blast.
>>

This. The soundtrack plays nearly throughout the movie, it's the central pillar of it.

at last some civilized reply and not butthurt triggered faggot fanboys, who think they're so "manly" watching some muscled savage half-naked for two hours... lmao

thank you anon, indeed it's not flashy, and we're far from the cgi faggotry of today, but I found it to be rather... dry... esthetically speaking, even though there are some nice shots here and there of course.

When it's not some flat and boring desert, you have some generic and very fake interior design, it made it quiet kitsch to me, and boring to the eye, like some old "classical" peplum.

No, fuck you. On the contrary. It did not age badly. I enjoy it specifically for its style, setting and music far more than modern parkinson camera CGI crap. The fact that it has so little dialogue is its another advantage. Thanks to this you enjoy the scenes leaving you with some sense of engagement by constructing the world in your own head. If anything Conan the Destroyer is campy, but not Conan.

Conan is an interesting movie in the sense that it is considered a cult classic by many, but often for the wrong reasons, and considered campy schlock by others. Then you can add the people who dislike it based on some (alleged) right wing political message.

For me it is an underrated masterpiece.

>dat music
>dat atmosphere

seriously, that fucking glorious editing.

this scene pretty much sums the movie up for me:

True. He did wear armour in the books. And the comics too - until the movie came out, then he was shirtless all the time.

The princesses were almost always generally nekkid in all media though.

seriously, that fucking scene. i often wondered if they designed the music to the already edited scene or if they had the ost running while they put that shit together. either way, its fucking maijestic-

well its the whole point of the arthurian legends to pass from paganism to christinianism, and that true european christianism had roots in paganism of course, it wasn't just bland oriental importation

btw you can see and understand that too in the nice tv film Merlin with Sam Neil
