All lauded Asian directors should be forced to make at least one English-language film. English language films expose poor foreign directors once the veil of linguistic obfuscation is removed.

Vampire, Shunji Iwai's sole English-language film, made me feel discouraged to ever watch another foreign film again. I will never fully understand them no matter how many subtitles are plopped on the screen.

If I saw Vampire (2011) and it was in Japanese with Japanese actors I probably would have called it a good movie. I can't believe I liked Shunji Iwai for so long without realizing he can't direct his way out of a paper bag and is just a real life creep with a camera but no talent.
