I suffer from pretty crippling anxiety in real life and my biggest fear is large groups of people. I find busy places and public transport almost impossible.
This is the first time game of thrones has nearly given me a panic attack. Even in the comfort and safety of my own bed in my home, I was shaking and sweating. I thought he was going to be trapped underneath bodies, I even thought I was going to be, the POV shots were so realistic. His violent struggle as well made it all the more horrifying. I nearly turned it off.
Genuinely one of the best bits of TV I've ever watched. Absolutely fantastic. I've calmed down now and I don't think I will rewatch it again soon, I think I would find it too difficult. But it's an absolute masterpiece.

Restating the question, why didn't Jon have demonsex with Melisandre the night before the battle and thus saved Rickon, the race of giants and the halflings all for the low, low price of a decade or so of his life? I'm sure there's the possible plot explanation of R'hllor being tired of Jon's shit and not allowing him to lord it over everyone with the black magicks, but damn, the only real reason why they didn't reuse demon babbies is cause it wouldn't be as attention-grabbing.

Okay, people seem to keep saying that Sansa should've told Jon about the army of the Vale. That would've been a terrible idea.
First off, Westeros doesn't have instant communication. So she didn't know if Littlefinger was going to get there or not until he was already there.
Secondly, if she had told Jon "Hey I might have more people if you just wait" then Jon would've likely waited. If the Vale had gotten there then Ramsay would've seen the larger army and stayed inside Winterfell and the siege would've lasted into Winter to inevitable failure.
I think that Sansa made a wise choice with the options she had. It sucks to be part of LF's machinations, but it's a lot better than being tortured and slaughtered by Ramsay.

I really dug the battle scene. The piles reminded me of that uh.. Cold Mountain's scene I think it was? Just instead of a natural formation it was bodies. It wasn't uncommon for bodies to pile up or for people to be smothered in the midst of a battle, you had hundreds of hundreds of people rushing against each other and pushing and shoving until they got up to stab someone.
The initial strategy wasn't bad, outside of the lack of stakes (common strategy to prevent cavalry charges and protect Archers) but the trenches they talked about didn't really show up.
They established Ramsay would be aggressive and he already sallied forth instead of attacking so him just sending cavalry in to smash a line with no visible spearmen made sense. The archer part made sense on Davos side and made sense for Ramsay since he didn't give a fuck and just littered them with arrows. It was common to soften up a target then clean up with infantry, the shieldwall/surround tactic has been used since it basically smothers and crushes the opponent, the only time I can think of happened at Boudica with the Romans and the Brits.
It wasn't bad considering Jon abandoned the plan and forced them into that situation. Meeting heavy cavalry with heavy cavalry is stupid but they had no alternative, everything after was typical. Ramsay could have sent his men in sooner but sending in wave after wave was normal especially with number advantage because you're pushing fresh troops against exhausted troops. The only thing not accounted for was 1) How Jon didn't manage to get some fucking spears to protect against cavalry and 2) how nobody managed to put some scouts out.
Ramsay didn't account for the Knights of the Vale, but you'd have to imagine they would have known after the Vale captured Moat Cailin, that's a declaration of war.
It wasn't as bad as pretty much any other battle in the show, everything made sense given the commanders and how people responded.

It looked like 500-1000 troops. It wouldn't be a small feat to forced march up to winterfell. Assuming Sansa sent a Raven earlier since she knew how many soldiers Jon had, she could have let Littlefinger know and just didn't tell Jon since she was pissed she wasnt on the war council.
She was accompanying Jon the whole way and might have tried to get Littlefinger to help sooner. Ramsay is already a shit commander since he consolidated his forces in Winterfell and lost a fortress without acting on it.

It's simple: when two forces shock agains't each other the dead may stack, if one of the forces pressure it and guard one of it's sizes, it's possible to form a wall, many corpse walls were formed in battle and that's one of the reasons why shock between forces was a problem, it was better to force a army to retreat trough a break of formation, actually going there and killing them could creat too much problems, one of them the corpse walls.

I dunno it made sense to me. Even the part where Jon charges alone made sense cause if he charged back he woulda been hit with a volley of arrows. He charged forward unexpectedly and missed the 1st volley, 2nd volley wrecked his horse, and his +10 luck saved him after that.
