the change to the ending makes the entire movie a plothole.
Without the squid development island, there's nothing for the comedian to discover about ozy's plan. Without the utter insanity of the squid, the squid development island, and the plan to teleport a giant psychic squid on new york, there's nothing for the comedian to discover that would break his brand of cynical nihilism.
So no mental breakdown, no reason to kill him, no reason for rorshack to start running around acting like capes are being murdered.
Any attempt reconcile this just raises more questions.
