John Carpenter is not underrated, but he is underappreciated.

before dying he HAS to make another good movie.
i want him to act like david bowie and leave us something beatiful in his departure
>>71012862
Mad Max Man made another good movie and he's like 80 years old
I am sure JC has another classic in him some where.
I was hoping after the success of Fury Road that Studio's would go looking at older directors that could make another great film
Verhoeven
Die Hard Guy
give them a decent budget and see what they can do.

his work as a composer is underrated
>>71012862
>>71014033
He has said in bunch of interviews that he doesn't want to do anymore movies. Too much work and too stressful, he just wants to enjoy his retirement, watch sports, play videogames, make music with his son etc.

Verhoeven just had a movie at Cannes
I've seen Halloween, They Live, Escape from New York, The Thing, Big Trouble in Little China and Assault on Precinct 13; liked them all to varying degrees.
I also heard some of his newer stuff is crap, so is there anything else of his worth watching?
>>71015005
Yes but it wasn't a hyper violent satire
>>71015294
Prince of Darkness
Starman
In the Mouth of Madness
>>71015294
You should definitely see The Fog. The original obviously.

The Thing was a victim of bad timing in a crowded year for sci-fi. Had it been released a year later, the phrase "Doom Trilogy" would be in more common usage.

The Ward is his last film, it was almost good.
He's underrated and overrated at the same time.
So underrated.
