The Room is fascinating because the director's intents, feelings, and thoughts come out so clearly and transparent, the same way you can always figure out what a child is thinking because they haven't learned to mask their feelings.
It's clear that Tommy went through some break-up, then wrote a almost too-personal story about it. Notice how all the women in this film are painted negatively, and even though Mark is complicit in the cheating, he is painted as a good friend in the end, where all blame is put on Lisa. Even thesuicideis such a self-serving fantasy that we've all had one time or another.
It reeks of a first-time screenwriter's attempt, where they put all their emotions and personal experiences into the film, without realizing how transparent they are being. The fascinating part is that this film actually got made. Normally it'd be shot down long before, but he got it done.

after me and my gf broke up, this movie was all that helped me overcome suicidal thoughts. i thought i was alone and being cheated until i saw that tommy was being cheated not only by his darling wife lisa, but his beloved friends and family too.
my friend's mother also had breast cancer too at that point and so lisa's mom's part really had me in tears. masterpiece

Go see it in the cinema. The crowd was shouting out mistakes I hadn't even noticed, like how the repeated shots of the Golden Gate Bridge almost never make it to the end. Plus Tommy himself was there. He high fived me and his hand was as soft and flaccid as uncooked meat.
