The setting is the aliens thing/militarism/corporativism, the plot revolves around the comedy/social critique/facism that Verhoeven used also in robocop. Is not considered a bad film by the critics, it was pretty divisive, some watched as a continuation of the parody elements in robocop, others feel it was tired and playing the same card again.
I like it, but I can understand why is not on the same leage of Robocop and Total Recall.
