No, that's what happened that made the first few good. Lucas wanted to make a shit-ton of bad decisions but he wasn't powerful/confident enough to have comeplete creative control. But once Star Wars took off, and everyone started showering him (and only him) with recognition, he truly believed that he was the sole reason Star Wars was popular and didn't let anyone else have a say in things
