Just watched this for the first time. Pretty god damn schlocky and predictable throughout. That 40 min courting ritual in particular was bad.
Why do people think this is great? Is it just Scottish nationalists? The battle scenes were pretty cool, but that's enough for a good film.

I grew up watching it. Maybe for me that has a little to do with it. Regardless, i think its a good movie.
I think the patriot is good. But really it isnt all THAT great. The acting for the most part is over acted, the story is predictable, and its a long ass movie. Kinda the same things you concluded with brave heart. But hey i really enjoy both and would watch both again.

Yeah no, it doesn't have an over inflated budget and bad themes, music, and acting covered by the over use of special effects. Cape shit is on Fast and the Furious level and those movies are actually satirical in the same vein as Escape from LA and shouldn't be taken seriously.

you have to consider the time it came out....It was the first movie in a long time to be made on that scale. Large battle scenes, lengthy running time, large period sets etc. It sorta kicked off the "epic movie" thing that went on through the late 90's/early 00's(The patriot, Gladiator, etc). People liked it because it was a decent quality movie and it was something different in 1995
