TOS is far better for sure, but TNG is still a good show. As for Picard, I'm neutral toward him in some episodes and outright hate him in others. Stewart is a great actor but the character can be such an indecisive pussy

Because a black hole's gravity works just like any other object's gravity. It's perfectly possible to enter into a stable orbit around one, the gravity won't manically pull you in. Just don't get too close or you'll have problems.
