The thing that bothered me was Thomasin joking about being a witch in a time when that was a very serious accusation. It came from no where and you knew it would come back to bite her in the ass. I don't know. Maybe girls did in fact joke about it back then. But given that some were seriously stoned and burned for it, it wouldn't be a prudent thing to joke about.
