The first one (I'm probably gonna get some You's for this) plays out nearly like a comedy because the actors just aren't up for the task. I bought entirely Zombie's white trash aesthetics and his focus on the emotional side of participants and how he handles the actual trauma (the second film), it's absolutely fucking spooky the conclusion he comes in at the end of the 2nd and I'm legit scared of it.
Michael whacking that kid off in the woods is legit scarier than anything I saw in Carp's Halloween.

I just can't agree with you. The original's performances were very much of its time, valley girl accents and all, but nothing particularly bad. Jamie Lee Curtis was very good actually, And overall, Carpenter craft is just superior. I mean, his craft is fucking genius, he shows you everyday life in the suburbs in an off putting, eerie way that I've never seen in any other film. It's actually beautiful.
I agree on how Zombie grounds the themes and takes them to a another level, and I really like it, but the original is just something else.
