Why was it received so negatively?

People expecting something like the tv show, with the colours, cheesy clothing, Elvis the alligator got a gritty action movie with a plot they couldn't follow and little of the cameraderie that Tubbs and Crockett have in the series. Bascially, this >>70875089

Because it wasn't a good movie. Being a decades-late adaptation of a tv show didn't help.

It's the worst Michael Mann film. It's long and drawn out and boring. The plot goes no where and its essentially just Mann spoofing himself. It looks good tho
