I'm a pleb, so I genuinely don't understand how it was trash.
It wasn't as good as his previous films before it, but it was your basic Michael Mann film. I get the feeling people who're familiar with his work were/are more forgiving and satisfied with it than regular ol' navel-gazing moviegoers.
