There are shows that would only work at specific eras at a specific mode of style. So few shows have that success. Miami Vice worked. However I don't believe this show could work today.
Anyone have a screenshot of Michael Bay's appearance? I watched the episode he is but didn't recognize him. Is this him?>>70800701

Did you watch the episode where Tubbs falls in love with a woman and she tries to kill him. He wakes up handcuffed to a bed while she starts a fire.
I can't remember how he got out of that one.
Remember one of the episodes that Don Johnson directed that had Iman as a serial killer?
>>70802607
Sounds like one of the late season eps. I just put in S05 Disc 1 to see if there are any good scenes for capping. Show kind of petered out in the later seasons.

Is the girl a prostitute? I remember an episode in later season 2 or early season 3 where there's a serial killer who falls in love with Tubbs and she tries to kill him. He ends up handcuffed to a bed and I think Sonny saved him at the last minute. I think the girl kills herself
>>70802668
I've watched up to season 4. I watched the season 4 opening and temporarily lost interest. After the god tier opening for season 3 it just seemed so lacklustre.
Who is this guy? Looks really familiar.

It's from season 2 near the end if I remember correctly, the last ten episodes for sure,
Pruitt Taylor Vince and Gary Farmer plus William O'Leary.

That must be it. I think Tubbs believed the serial killer was trying to kill her. But she turned out to be the killer. She died it the fire,
>>70803386
This sounds like 'Little Miss Dangerous.' and it is season two, I believe.
Dunno this guy's name but he is also in L.A. Takedown.
Seasons 1&2 are GOAT tier
Great Mann-influenced cinematography and operator porn
Season 3 is ok but you can definitely feel the absence of Mann. Also the "no earth tones" rule was abandoned and the visuals/color palette really suffered. It didn't age was well as the earlier seasons
The less said about seasons 4&5 the better
Tubbs likes his women to have a nice, bushy monobrow.
One of the best shows ever. Once you look past the fashion and some of the dialogue, it is truly classic. Visually stunning imo.
>>70803584
I really like the last two seasons even though some people think it had jumped the shark when Sonny got amnesia became Burnett....its so silly I enjoyed it.

>Once you look past the fashion
I always found the 80's aesthetic to be one of the best parts of the show. My buddy and I have gone as Crockett and Tubbs for Halloween the past three years, we even rented a white Ferrari last year.
>tfw couldn't drink because too scared I'd wreck the car and too scared to let my gf drive it because she drives like a 90 year old Chinaman
Not doing that shit again.
Canadian actor Robert Joy from Land of the Dead and lots of other things.

I totally agree about a lot of that aesthetic being cool...and Sonny usually looked boss. But there were times where the clothing and hair is just awful. Pic related.
Did you rent a real Testarossa? Fun fact: In the show, the original Daytona was actually a C3 Vette that was made to look like a Daytona by a small company in Florida. The interior is all Chevy if you look closely. Ferrari got pissed when they saw the popularity of the show featuring a fake-Ferarri and sent NBC the Testarossa, which first appeared as black but was painted white for better visibility in night scenes. They used Detomaso Pantera's with body kits on them during chases so as not to fuck up the real thing.
>>70805077
>She stole Philip Michael Thomas's EGOT
That's cold, Rita.
>>70805167
Even funnier considering he coined the acronym and then wound up doing commercials for a psychic hotline.
>>70805130
Wow, I didn't know all that, that's actually really cool.
Yeah we got an actual Testarossa, it was a different year though because we couldn't find a white one like on the show that was for rent of that year. Ours was an 89, and the guy that rented it to us apparently rents all types of classic and sport cars to movies that shoot here in NYC. He owns a parking garage that is pull of amazing cars, it blew my mind.
I wish I could afford one of the real ones. http://www.cnbc.com/2015/08/06/miami-vice-ferrari-to-sell-at-auction.html

Never saw the show but good thread. Are there any particularly good episodes to check out? I love Mann but doubt he was much involved.
>It's a Danny Sullivan as the guy you will google to know who he is makes his cameo.
>>70806503
Mann was heavily involved during at least the first two seasons, having final say over casting, choosing the directors, music, etc.
The two-hour pilot is a good introduction but I would also recommend Out Where the Buses Don't Run, which is pretty great, too.
>>70806587
Re-watched this episode with my brother recently. He's real life racing driver and is very stiff in his scenes.
>>70806503
See >>70804645 if you liked Manhunter you will love that episode. Creepy shit.
Pic related is Keith Gordon, who started off as an actor in some De Palma films and now directs films and tv himself. This episode is a backdoor pilot where Crockett only appears at the beginning while the rest of the episode is about a younger cop going undercover to find this professor (Gordon) who's student are killing themselves because of some drug he's supplying them. I can see why it wasn't picked up.
>>70806701

This is from an episode that was deemed to disturbing to air because it dealt with child abuse. It was later shown on another channel after the series had ended, IIRC.

Too Much, Too Late
Teh end
I like how Miami Vice threads usually go really well and the shitposting is kept to a minimum. Other shows with similar threads are Frasier and The Twilight Zone. The threads have a pleb filter or something.
I love the decor in the rooms and locations. According to Sandra Santiago, Mann was a perfectionist when it came to the backgrounds and sets, trying to coordinate wall colors and clothiing colors...all those pastels...
>>70807842
Mann fans are patrician.
>>70808004

Tony Sirico was a true gangster until the mid 80s when he started acting. There's a documentary that I've been looking for for years now, called The Big Bang that came out in the late 80s probably around the time of that episode. Its interviews with random people of all walks of life, how they think the world became what it is. Tony Sirico, before anyone knew who he was, talked about his life bashing peoples heads in, the mob, etc. One of the stories is about how he was so in love with a girl that he killed for her. There's court records from a trial he was part of back in the 70s somewhere online. He beat someone with a bat but I don't remember the circumstances. He had a mobster-y nickname and everything. I guess that's why he's so natural at playing gangsters.
