I think the problem stems from more so the fact how people online (blogs, tumblr, liberal journalist, etc) were parading this as "real first princess woman!" "First woman who needs no man!" etc etc that most of those SJW types often love over blowing and focusing on. And normal people got wind of it and then starts to think that's what was the intention.
