Literally every single thing Jaqen has done has been to teach/guide Arya into becoming a competant, confident warrior. He knew exactly what he was doing, and him setting the waif on her was the final test for him to fully accept her as no one. Him smiling at her saying she was going home says fucking everything about the character. He taught her how to swordfight and deal with death of loved ones as Syrio, and then trained her to be an assassin and confident in who she was as Jaqen.
He's pretty much a big bro tier spirit guide/ personal yoda for Aryas character development.
