But most of the greatest scientists in history were Christian or Jewish.

I think expecting Family Guy to understand even a basic knowledge of history is a bit much desu.

>Monks never preserve most of the Greeks work
>All we get is fragments of Plato from triple translated Farsi texts
>No University systems are created
>No literacy for the common man

Not really by choice. It's like saying that kids believe in Santa by choice,

Ironic that a lot of the Enlightenment discoveries were first found during the dark ages.

Also that it was a Catholic monk that started the push for greater rigor in mathematics in place of the mysticism that Newton et al. employed

Sola Scriptorum you Pleb. The percieved need to teach the common man his own written language, for his own understanding of the bible, was the motivating factor in the 15tyh to 16th century for universal literacy. Its why in 13th century England barely 10% could read and in 15th century Jamestown the literacy rate was above 90% including women.

>religion invented as a unified system of government meant to keep larger, complex civilizations together

Christianity has less do with stifling intellectual progress than other historical events. We owe a lot of our preserved knowledge to Islam, and later when they were raped by the Mongols a lot of that knowledge was preserved by Christian monks, as people have already said in this thread.

A bigger hindrance to intellectual human progress was probably the burning of the library in Alexandria.
