The movies that are being made now are "safe" dogshit.
None of the studios are taking a gamble, so none of the roles are new and exciting. This means just about every role an actor does nowadays has no opportunity for anything notable.
That's the real reason why CGI and capeshit are both bad for the medium—it's so controlled and "safe" that it doesn't even matter who the actors are.
