You see this all the time with married couples, especially those who have either cheated or considered cheating, and those who have been together for a long time.
They tell themselves that they love the person they are with. They repeat it over and over, hoping that one day they might actually believe it to be true. They desperately try to convince themselves that the only person they want are the person to whom they are married. They've realized that by marrying someone, they have trapped themselves into having to be faithful to the same person for the rest of their lives. If they don't want to divorce and face all of the financial, familial, and social stigma that goes along with that, their only other option is to just fake it until they make it.
