My theory is that after 9/11 we got a lot more movies talking about torturing terrorist suspects and even private lynching.

That too, that's the cynicism and anger. Right wing leaning ideologies ran rampant too, you can see it Michael Bay's films like the Bad Boys II.

I mean I know there are post 9/11 movies but I always thought of Extremely Loud or World Trade Center or Jarhead that kind of movies
