270 MILLION PRODUCTION BUDGET INCLUDING MARKETING.

THERE'S NO WAY WARCRAFT IS MAKING 500 MILLION AND THERE'S NO WAY IN HELL IT'S GETTING A SEQUEL.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I hope this gets Blizzard to make Warcraft 4 instead of wasting their money on stupid movies

WoW killed it, they'll never make Warcraft 4, ever.

I just got back from seeing the movie. After seeing the movie insulted so long here, and seeing all the terrible reviews it was getting from journalists I went in with low expectations. You know what, it's actually pretty damn good. It's not the Lord of the Rings..but I certainly enjoyed it more than any of the Hobbit movies (I know, almost a left handed compliment).

Actually, they were just about as faithful to the lore and feel of the games as they could be considering the format. Some things don't have the right timelines but I thought they did a good job linking things together.

The reviews were right about one thing; the Orc segments are FAR more entertaining than the human ones. It's not that the human ones are bad per se, they just aren't very exciting and are more about exposition. But the Orc CGI is absolutely fantastic, normally CGI feels almost flimsy and cheap but honestly it feels more genuine than the live action parts.

You can see the divide on the Rotten Tomatoes professional VS user reviews. I felt reading the reviews that most of them just had contempt for the movie, which it absolutely doesn't deserve. I might say "this isn't a movie for everyone, but if you've ever played any game in the Franchise and liked it you'll probably like this movie" would have been fair.
>>
>>70695270
Current estimate is 25-30mil
>>
>>70695061
they always have, blizzard is amazing at cinematics, which is why i question why they didnt just make a movie with the same feel.

i mean i know it wasnt blizzard who made it but they should of stuck with what they are good at.
>>
I just watched it, it was actually pretty good. Not great, but good. Not sure why the critics loathed it.

And to OP: The theater was filled to capacity when I went.
>>
>>70695270

It had a midweek opening, probably not that weird, just came back from one of the less popular theaters in town, movie started at 7:30 so probably not the most popular slot either. Theater was about 3/4ths full
>>
>>70694915

It used to. Then Cataclysm happened.
>>
>>70695309
Critics typically dislike movies that pander to a certain genre like video games. Show me a good video game movie (I know thats hard) that got good reviews

it takes months for blizzard to make a 5 min long cinematic

for a 2 hours movie it'll be 10 years in the making to achieve the same quality given their rate

>>
Just saw the movie today. It was pretty good. Really hoping to see a sequel.
>>
>>70695306

the Orc sequences from the movie really do feel like high quality cinematics. In fact considering alot of the same characters are there, the Orc half of the movie REALLY felt like it could have come right from Warlords of Draenor. Actually...an Orc only movie would probably have been far more entertaining. The human side is basically there for people who have never played the games and would be totally lost without SOME explanation for everything.

Although I did find it odd that the King and Queen were out having beers at the Goldshire Inn miles from Stormwind's gates for some random reason. I realize they wanted fanservice but it did feel kind of forced
>>
>>70695428
CLick the foreign tab faggot. Half that revenue was generated the weekend of 5/25, 2 weeks ago
>>
>>70695278
Their cutscenes are cute little setpieces that can be cliche and badly written as long as they serve their purpose of moving the story along or as flashy advertising for the game.
>>
movie fucking sucked
>>
>>70695375

Now that you mention it, this is likely the best movie adapted from a video game made so far.

Which says less about how good it is than about how shitty the others are, mind you.

>>
>>70695287
I felt like there was a good movie there that got fucked over somewhere between the exec desk and the editing room. The final dual battle scene was giving me Star Wars shivers, and I kept thinking, "I like these characters and I like what they're doing now and they just needed to have made me feel this way earlier."

I would have preferred the movie be a lot longer; the editing was choppy, and while I was never really confused as to what was going g on, I still feel like the ma, the breathing and feeling and getting-situated moments, were cut for snappiness - which is funny because, if true, it ruined the pacing, especially at the beginning.
>>
>>70695309

I felt the same way about Doom, it wasn't the greatest movie ever but I felt like the acting wasn't terrible, it was fairly faithful to the feel of it's source material and genuinely seemed to be having fun with what it was;
>>
>>70695530
silent hill and doom were objectively good
>>
>>70695445
>The human side is basically there for people who have never played the games and would be totally lost without SOME explanation for everything.
The young mage was the most interesting character in the movie.
>>
>>70695646
I enjoyed Doom when I turned my brain off to the fact that it was supposed to BE Doom. Same thing with the Spirits Within and the Super Mario movie
>>
>0 mention of Hellscream, first orc to drink the fel blood

I liked it but it irks me that they left this out. It's sorta like how they left out Roran's girlfriend in that somehow worse than the source material Eragon movie. Dude is a major figure in Warcraft 3 and his son is the main antagonist of 2 WoW expacks. I guess they can just introduce him in 2 or 3, maybe through a flashback sequence to when the orcs first drank the fel blood. (could make for an alright opening sequence)
>>
>>70695646
>>70695707
The monsters in Doom being genetic experiments gone wrong was lame. It tickled my autism something fierce.
>>
>>70695287
I more or less ageree with you. This is a movie for the fans, the normies wont get into it that much. Thats good for Blizzard and his plans for sequels, but Im betting they want the normies in.
>>
>>70695530
Resident Evil movies were good. And there are tons of movies that aren't based on a specific game property that basically stole one's premise, a la Chronicle/Akira.
>>
>>70695498

Demonic magic represented by neon green has been the staple ever since at least Burning Crusade. I think they called it Blood magic back in Warcraft 2 though.

I was waiting for Ner'zhul though, i'm hoping if a sequel is made they'll learn their lesson and focus it on spooky scary Draenor and Burning legion shit.

I really wished they had spent more time on the corruption of Medivh and the horde and less on Lothar's and Llanes quibbles
>>
>>70695737

>>
>>70695397
This was honestly the thing that annoyed me most in the movie. A fucking gook? Seriously wtf
>>
>>70695737

True, i'm not sure why they didn't hand wave that the ancient Martian race they stumbled across had built some sort of gateway to allow them to cross vast distances in the universe only to get invaded from a Hell like alien dimension, leading to their extinction only for humans to arrive millions of years later and open it back up. Easy story change, wouldn't require much extra, the monster possiblities are better because they can be lovecraftian horrors
>>
I just watched this movie and two things stuck out for me personally.
The first was the opening scene with the human and orc doing battle with the narrator giving the one line all fans know best. Gave me Warcraft 3 vibes and pulled me right in. 10/10 opening scene.

The second scene was the birds eye view pan across the several different battlefields as combat was happening in each one. That gave a very nice feel of the RTS origins of Warcraft. 11/10

The rest of the movie was actually really meh. A few scenes with the female half orc made me yawn

That wasn't enough for your /pol/ jollies, you gotta complain about the smartest race having individuals that look like Asians? I mean, that's asinine on multiple levels.
>>
>>70695755

I honestly was shocked a major studio release kept as much from the games as it did. Gul'Dan especially feels completely contiguous between the Warcraft movie and the ingame cinematics from WoD
>>
>>70696039
They're night elves who fucked off because they still wanted to play with Arcane magic.

Night elves are dark trolls exposed to titan blood
>>
>>70696039
No ya dingus, they're high elves. Night elves didn't show up until much later.
>>
>>70695287
The director's original idea was to make a movie about humans and another about orcs. It's strange to see a director actually not shiting on the game his movie is based in.

After seeing some pictures of the movie here I expected it to look like WoW-tier shit, But armors and all actually looked good. It felt like one of those neat cinematic movies from the games, trying to keep the characters faithful to the game models and mechanics. Not a masterpiece, but you could feel love was put into it.
>>
The opening scene was perfect and the only really glaring error is when Garona is talking to the king at the portal and everyone around them is fighting in slow motion but they're talking normal.

I really hope so, I'd absolutely love to a movie version of Beyond the dark portal showing first Stormwind being destroyed, a retreat to Lordaeron, followed by a human army going through the Dark Portal. The climatic finale would be Ner'zhul opening the gateways into the Twisting Nether leading to Draenor being ripped apart. Depending on the movie length the B plot can be Thrall coming of age and finding the exiled Frostwolves

The only thing i didnt like was how they glossed over character stories and changed details. Also khadgar was supposed to age rapidly from medivhs magical assault.

I'm honestly curious as to how it'll do. If it's a success, what will it mean for the industry? I mean, first we have Deadpool being a raging success, now we'd have Warcraft...

No matter how much you try to pass it as minor divergences, they're fucking big.
Doomhammer fucking off somewhere and Gul'dan not entering a coma changes everything about those characters.
The movie already ruined their characters and motivations, but I don't see how will they play it if there's a sequel, it'll change everything.

Only problem I had was Garona should've been mind controlled and forced into assassinating the king against her will by Gul'Dan. Would've given her some better motivation and made Gul'Dan into a more serious threat for the sequel instead of a whiny bitch he ended up as.

But he is a whiny bitch originally and submits to doomhammer so whatever.

This.

It was pretty obvious that Durotan was gonna lose, even if you already knew that lorewise.

Gul'dan would have presented Durotan his ass on a polished silver platter if he didn't remember that he had an army to summon.

Gotta hand it to Blizz, that's a pretty ballsy thing to put in your movie.
>>
>>70696691

I actually enjoyed WoD, I thought the storylines were interested, the Arakkoa especially was a tragic and very symmetrical story from when we encountered them 8 years ago in Burning Crusade. Actually if anything my biggest complaint is there needed to be more fun things to do. Archaelogy, fishing, and enchanting were totally ignored this season as well as an interesting crafting system. I didn't hate on the Garrisons but I can't say i'm sorry to see them gone as of Legion.

movie critics love to perpetuate the "game movies suck" stereotype and some even enjoy hating it because "not muh" mentality

Burgerkins love to hate Warcraft and Blizzard. Im not shilling them, they fuck up very often and I admit it, but wherever you go, people literally enjoy trashing it because "warcraft went to shit since *insert game or expansion*".

>>70698894

>>70698884
They change everything. Canon warcraft ending is the orc one, this movie is basically human ending with some other shit. Important characters getting killed off by characters that didn't kill them, characters that shouldn't even be where they are there for fan service.
>>
>>70698884
For the most part, there's a few tidbits of lore they left out due to the runtime but other than that everything pretty much happens as it should happen.
>>
>>70698884

>>
>>70698998

Most of the titans are still alive. Also since Azeroth is a titan egg or whatever they have to have it hatch first and then do whatever with that.
>>
>>70698999
Well it wasn't entirely in vain. He knew that if he went up against Gul'dan he'd die which is why he told Orgrim he would "show" everyone what the fel energy is doing to them.

It wasn't gonna sway them entirely but it DID sow the seeds of distrust amongst their ranks towards their supposed leader, which is pretty much all Durotan could have done in that fight.
>>
>>70698884
It's pretty faithful for the most part.
There are a few things that they changed, but they are usually minor things that don't really impact the overall story. Though one change that even I didn't really like was that Garona isn't mind-controlled by Gul'dan to kill the king; instead the king and her get left behind and surrounded by the Horde and the king lets Garona kill him to regain acceptance into the Horde and try to restore peace
But they also included details that I was afraid they would leave out, such as how Medivh helped open the portal. I figured they would just simplify it to have Gul'dan do all the work. And Sargeras is briefly alluded to a couple times iirc.

They escaped by sending their spirits into the titanic guardians they created on Azeroth, which like half of are dead or corrupted now. They're like double dead at this point, some at least.

I went into this film with the lowest expectations possible, it wasn't a perfect film by any means, the first 25% dragged for a bit, the dialogue was very videogamey, but damn it picked up and became fucking kino by the end.

>that sargeras transformation
>khadgar actually becoming likable by the end of the film
>and neat twist on the Garona assassination with Lane
>Durotan and Guldan fight, Durotan's death was actually emotional
>the sheep scene
>the duel scene with Mork'Gar, fucking kino

I give this an 8/10, seriously surprised me with how much quality it was. I think if you haven't played the games you won't like it as much though...

They won in comparison to what actually happens in the game. In Warcraft the humans of Stormwind get completely BTFO and the entire city is destroyed.
>>
>>70699029
But orcs are depicted as orcs.
Warmonger savages who decide their warmonger warlord is too warmongering for them, so they plan on outwarmongering him while they plan to warmonger some more with the humans, but some of them are not sure they should keep warmongering as warmongerous as ever, so they warmonger while they warmonger and their warmongerer warmongers warmonger as well.

Garona was reasonable because of her Mestizo blood.
>>
>>70699281
That's still going to happen though. Stormwind WILL get BTFO, then the humans come back and BTFO the Dark Portal.
>>
>>70699243
The Mak'Gora against Lothar annoyed me, tho. I tought that ritual was an orc-only thing .

This movie has the most satisfying death of all times. When Gul'dan's buddies start burning the Frostwolf camp, just when Draka goes out of the tent and Doomhammer stands there and fucking NAILS THAT SON OF A BITCH attacking from behind. I felt that hit.

also fuck 3d screenings

No they aren't.
Play WC1, or watch the misión briefings on YouTube.

>>70699306
How?
The portal is closed, Medivh is dead and the Alliance is already formed, even if they follow the lore and eventually burn Stormwind down, it'll be stupid.

I giggled at the 60 sec explanation.
>>
>>70699361
They'll probably just have Gul'dan open from one side and Nerzhul open it from the other. Then the entirety of the Horde comes through and burns SW to the fucking ground.

Sloppy and lore-breaking? Probably, but it works.
>>
>>70699403
>no drawn out scene of them going around the prison looking for lothars things and having to resheep the guard with khadgar warning about diminishing returns
>>
>>70699095

That was always confusing as hell. Do all titans have old gods just living in them or is it just a egg azeroth thing.
>>
I thought it was pretty cheeky when Khadgar explains that the polymorph lasts "about a minute"
>>
>>70699095
So when azeroth hatches this new titan will it absorb everyones ilvl?
>>
>>70699414
I have my doubts as to whether Ner'zhul exists in the movie.
Shamanism isn't mentioned not even once, and Ner'zhul isn't mentioned in any of the books that explain the movie.
And since they're trying to portray Gul'dan as the absolute indiscutible leader of the horde it gives me doubt.
>>
>>70699361
I did. And I did play the games back then. They did a good job mentioning the different clans of the horde because that explains why some of them act like wc3 orc and some others like the ones from the first games.
For example, blackhand is pretty much the same.
>>
>>70699495
I dunno, they kind of need him for the Lich King, unless they make up some stupid shit.

Old gods and titans are seperate

Azeroth the planet is infested with old gods that are trying to get to Azeroth the "titan" thats sleeping within the planet until its ready to wake up and do whatever the fuck its meant to do.

But according to Chronicle 1, it can pretty much be considered "The Chosen One" sleeping titan which makes the planet and everyone on it just happen to be super special by proxy
>>
lmao, they could've made comic book movie #578 and comic book movie #579 instead of this shitfest
>>
>>70699519
Then you would know that Frostwolf didn't exist or at least, didn't join the invasión on the First War.
Gul'dan ruled from the shadows, he wasn't the visible leader of everything.
And what clans are mentioned in the movie? Blackrock doesn't exist, the Stormreaver doesn't exist.
All I remember is the Frostwolf and some mentions to two other clans in the first Draenor scene and that's it.
The characterization of the orcs is all wrong because there wasn't any thing as mak'gora, the only reason the orcs didn't turn amongst themselves was because the humans were there, they are a race of backstabbing and honourless savages, and no amount of Metzen cocaine-fueled retconning will change that.
>>
>>70699607
I beleive Frostwolf, Blackrock(i remember this specificaly) and Laughing Skull are the clans mentioned at the beginning.

>warning about diminishing returns
>>
>>70699659

You see shattered Hand flags and Kargath throughout the movie also
>>
>>70699455

No.

So the NEW LORE is that titans are titans and the universe has a bunch of titan eggs that most the time are planets that we live on.

Then there are Void Lords who are beings of PURE EVIL and want to kill everything because PURE EVIL. Void lords however exsit outside the plane of reality so in order for them to PURE EVIL things they need to rip a hole in spacetime. Void lords aren't powerful enough to do that so instead they create old gods and randomly fling them in to space hoping they will hit a titan egg. Legit, Void lords can no see the universe so they blindly throw old gods hoping to corrupt a titan egg.

For some reason though that I don't think they ever explain, Azeroth get hit with like, a shit ton of old gods out of pure fucking luck.

Old gods then try to corrupt the egg and of course other things too so some times there are bits of old god in things that they corrupted and can also be reborn again with if not properly purged or defeated.

>>

>Blackrock
Oh well, anyway it becomes a pretty irrelevant clan since Doomhammer is now a Frostwolf and Blackhand is dead by the end of this movie.
>>
>>70699722
Uh maybe its not. Doomhammer doesnt have a clan and Blackrock doesnt have a clan leader now.

Seems easy enough to do the math there.
>>
>>70699683
Oh right. I guess DR didnt come around for a while huh?

>mace rogues
I was just an innocent little warlock trying to hit 60 so I could do ZG with my friends...
>>
>>70699572

That would explain why the majoirity of azeroth has tapped into being as powerful as they are now. We are all fucked when it wakes up then.
>>
>>70699748

All the orcs are supposed to be under the new banner of The Horde so I doubt they will ever get a new war chief.
>>
>>70699748
But why would the Blackrock clan let a former Frostwolf lead them? Surely each clan has a power chain.
>>
>>70699748
Doesn't Doomhammer defect the Horde after Gul'dan kills Durotan?
That's what I understood from his last scene, he goes to seek Thrall.
>>
>>70699802
Each clan always has a Chieftan.

Just like Thrall was Warchief and Chieftan of the Frostwolves at the same time, meanwhile Garrosh was Chieftan of the Warsong while Thrall was still Warchief and became Warchief after. Thrall was STILL FW chieftan, just not a warchief.

Think Noble houses serving a line of Kings. They are still noble houses with heads of house but theres a king who leads his house and his house is the top dog of all houses.

>tfw the doomhammer prophecy is still true
>Through blood the weapon shall pass, as surely as night begets day, Until the elements cry unheard, and pride turns to unbridled rage. The last of the line shall deliver salvation and doom upon his kind. Honor will be undone and all will be lost, before it is found again. A stranger will raise the hammer high, and with it justice shall reign.

Orgrim betrays Durotan and the frostwolves all die, he then is a part of the salvation of the orcs when he gives the doomhammer to Go'el
