What does /who/ think of TBakers last serial?
Thoughts on Australian Tits?

>>70614633
>>
>>70664682
Disappointing way for T. Bakes to go out
>>
>>70664682
This is Lawrence Miles' favourite serial.
>>
>>70664682
This is one of those stories that's so important you almost can't judge it as good or bad. It just is what it is. Would there be any way for Tom Baker to leave the show that wasn't anticlimactic? I doubt it. There are definitely some things I'd change though, like the newly reintroduced Master almost destroying the entire universe out of sheer mental retardation. But the atmosphere and tone are spot on and story is full of neat ideas. Also I continue to maintain that 4 and Adric worked well together. They were both intelligent outcasts, with Adric being a younger and edgier version of the Doctor and the Doctor being like a father figure to him. After the Baker to Davison regeneration the Doctor wasn't as authoritative and let Adric's cuntiness get out of hand, it just ruined the balance they had.
>>
Less than an hour and this thread is already a PHUCKING CORPSE!!!
>>
So what's /who/ with you? I just finished pic related, and I don't really grasp why everyone thinks it's so GOAT. I mean, the plot was interesting cause it's one of the few sans-aliens stories post First Doctor, and the twist at the end is pretty neat, but Eveleyn's character annoyed for about 3/4 of the story, and I only really settled into her in part 4. It was good besides that, but I don't understand the love everyone has for it. I thought WoT was way better.

Now I'm about to resume my Who from the beginning run with Mission to the Unkown. Is The Daleks Master Plan any good or just slow as shit and incredibly difficult to get through? 12 episodes is a really long serial.
>>
>>70666432
Sorry it didn't grab you anon. I think the main thing with Evelyn is she's dramatically different from other JNT companions, especially Peri, and the dynamic with Six having someone older brings out a different side of Colin (it's similar to Ten/Wilf in that way). What did you find annoying?

Whispers is good too of course, maybe a more experimental story with the whole "sound" aspect.
>>
>>70666432
>Is The Daleks Master Plan any good or just slow as shit and incredibly difficult to get through? 12 episodes is a really long serial.
Like Trial of a Time Lord, it's better if you think of it as a few related serials rather than one long one.
>>
>>70666636

Her character just seemed really out of whack. She's a history professor, but is far more concerned with drinking cocoa than being about and meeting people and expereincing history? I dunno. She just seemed incredibly unintelligent for someone that was kind of built up in part 1 to be very knowledgable and level headed. I guess that's what bothered me; for someone who IS older, she acts a lot more LIKE Peri than I expected. Her just seemed in the clouds a lttle too much. Maybe she'll grow on me. I guess we'll see.

>>70666672

Ah okay. I guess that makes sense.

I loved Whispers. It was my first proper Sixie story, as I had never actually seen one of his episodes when I first listened to it. I thought the whole concept was really clever, and that Colin absolutely nailed it. I don't know why it doesn't get more love.
>>

I've actually yet to hear a Six story I don't like tbqh. I've not been listening to Big Finish for very long but Six has shot right to the top of my favourite Doctors ranking. McGann has the second spot.

Good old fashioned silly fun? The Doctor is literally haunted by his own imminent demise and spends most of the serial either mopey or angry, in contrast to his usual carefree charm. The story centers on the idea that our entire universe is past its expiration date, that we shouldn't even exist at this point and have only been surviving by using other universes as the cosmic equivalent of toxic waste dumps. Of course, that was just until the Logopolitans could work out a more permanent solution, but now they won't because they're fucking dead along with Nyssa's people, not as part of the Master's evil plot but just because he fucked up, their deaths are completely pointless. And of course there's the episode's ostensible theme, that entropy inevitably increases, which is one of the most depressing facts about the physical universe there is. Even if the Doctor manages to stop it from consuming the whole universe, he can't reverse it. Honestly, the fact that the Doctor even regenerates at the end almost feels like a cop out. Everything about the story feels like it's building to a legit death scene even though you know going in that it's not. It's is one of the most grim stories in the series.
>>
>>70669460
Thanks m8. I keep missing these. Didn't get to vote in the last one either. I could have given Hartnell a higher rating. ;_;
>>
>>70669650
I don't think anyone was unironically hyped for Foreman. It looked like it was going to be a complete shit show and everyone people wanted a good laugh. It's probably never happening though since Claudia left and the whole thing died.
>>
>>70668631

Fair enough and agreed. While Six isn't my favorite, he's defintely up there and so is McGann. For me it's probably

>Smith >Hartnell >C. Baker >McGann
>>
>>70669659

>>
>>70669764
Hurt will probably always come last since he had less onscreen time in the role than anyone else. Nice to see Troughton up so high though. I don't hate Tennant like some around here but I probably would put him near the bottom.
>>
>>70669809

I can honestly say I'm a little disappointed; I needed something new to lel over after finishing Luke's material.

Also, after doing like 5 minutes of googling, according to the people behind Foreman a teaser trailer has a TBA date for sometime this year. So maybe there's still hope yet.
>>
>>70669878
>Hurt will probably always come last since he had less onscreen time in the role than anyone else
Yeah that's fair. Maybe the BF audios will bring him up for next year.

> I don't hate Tennant like some around here but I probably would put him near the bottom.
Yeah same. I don't hate him but he's my least favorite.

Also we did the polls in January so be around that time next year if we do it again and you want to vote in it.

>they designed a new logo for the show specifically to parody some obscure album cover

>>
>>70676555
Yeah Biddy has the actual destruction of the universe starting with whole galaxies falling apart and the one planet stopping this from happening turned to dust by the Master, so it seems nothing can stop the end of reality.
Nyssa's home is wiped out. Aunt Vanessa is tissue compressed. The Doctor is haunted by a Future Ghost of his possible self.
The Doctor and the Master battle in a dangerous location, fighting for the fate of the universe.
The Doctor halts the destruction but plummets to his own death.

If this story is considered bad it's not the writer's fault.
>>
Just finished this, it features an alien people who fled from their own planet because it was fucked, get accepted into another planet, pretend to be " a minority" and "oppressed" despite being more numerous than the native, insist to keep practicing their traditions while despising the native's and call every action against them "a hate crime".

This guy is doing some research about the old annuals for a fanzine.

Also, apparently Hinchcliffe wanted to change the name of an alien to avoid confusion with the villain of The Enemy of the World. So much for "nobody cared about continuity back then".
>>
>>70677445
It's a truly Garethalicious story, Morris has never done anything remotely as Garethesque in the years since. I suppose it was pretty easy at that point in the decade to be a Brit and fall into the whole meme, like in a "ooh this is in the papers let's do a Doctor Who story about it" sort of way, even if you didn't peg yourself as a Garethite.

Because the two stories she's already been in have been absolutely dreadful. Not down to her of course but both Death in Heaven and The Magician's Apprentice are the two single worst stories of the Capaldi era.

Also Chibnall will probably want to do his own thing with the Master, if he uses the character, and that will probably mean a recast so that's all good.

Not down to Michelle I meant, the character is just lazily written and the episodes she's been in were even worse. I don't know which turned the other into being even more shit.

Don't be bloody stupid! I'm a Moffat fan and have always appreciated what he's done with the show on the whole.

You know I get really sick and tired of people like you coming on here and having a worthless pop every time someone dares to criticise any element of NuWho, it has its good points and bad, just like any other era of the show.

>>70679652
At least they tried something. Death in Heaven was the most lackluster finale I've ever seen and Magician's Apprentice was Genesis of the Daleks 2015.

Hold up now. I read this exact same text on Gallifreybase a few days ago...
>>
>>70679755
Don't be so bloody rude !!

For your information I do not "come on here and have a worthless pop" I have been watching Who since 1981, I'm fully aware that there are elements of the show that are great, indifferent, and plain damn awful, and have no problems in giving praise where it's due and criticism where needed. What I get "sick and tired" of is people posting unsubstantiated criticism - saying "I can't stand The Witch's Familiar, it really wasn't for me, I thought it was shit" is fine, whereas "Watching The Witch's Familiar makes me realise that Moffat is a 3rd rate hack who shouldn't be allowed to write for TV ever again" is, to my mind, unnecessary and idiotic.

Now I'm certainly not accusing you of that, so I apologise if you took my post as a personal dig at you - it wasn't aimed at anyone in particular, just a comment on the general state of this general right now that seems to be full of people posting about how shit the writers are on the show (Mark Gatiss I think comes in for some really nasty, unwarranted abuse) as if they could do better themselves.

RTD got dog's abuse quite often during his reign once the euphoria of knowing that the show was back had died down - that seems to have escalated since Moffat took over, and he has gone from "wow - Blink, Empty Child, this bloke is brilliant" to "he's destroying our show, he cant write for shit" in quite a short space of time. Chris Chibnall's efforts for the show thus far have not been universally regarded as classics, and yet at the moment people are hailing him as the new Messiah who is going to save Who from the mire that Moffat has apparently plunged it into. That will probably last until the first "clunker" of his first season, or until he hires Mark Gatiss or Steve Thompson or Gareth Roberts to write a script, whichever comes first. I can't quite understand the thought processes behind it.

Heaven Sent should've been a regeneration story. The Doctor committing suicide.

Wonder how 12 will actually go? They've used up all the ways they can kill the Dr now. Unless he drowns
>>
>>70679926
And let's not forget that a few years ago we would never have dreamed that Who would be back anyway, so I'd rather look at trying to accentuate the positives most of the time rather than the negatives - after all, wasn't it Joni Mitchell who said "you don't know what you've got till it's gone"? I'm sure none of us would be happy if they all turned round tomorrow and said "you know what, it ain't worth the hassle", and the show was cancelled again?
>>
>>70679982
>Heaven Sent should've been a regeneration story. The Doctor committing suicide.
I don't follow.
>>
>>70680017
he commits suicide over and over by frying himself after being touched by the blanket monster
>>
Reminder 12 will die hallucinating Missy and past companions as he's dying from poisoning like in Let's Kill Hitler.
>>
>>70679982
Drowning permakills him actually, if Turn Left is anything to go by
>>
>>70679799
It might be a while before another male Master, but it poses some interesting questions if they do decide to do it. Now that the character has transgressed certain borderlines, snogged the Doctor (and been snogged by the Doctor) and various other shit that even RTD was reluctant to do when he was male, do those lines stay crossed? Or will reverting to male automatically coincide with burying all the text back into subtext, for fear of overt gayness?

>>70679982
>Heaven Sent should've been a regeneration story. The Doctor committing suicide.
Wouldn't work. The point of him proper-killing himself billions and billions of times is so that some future copy of him might actually survive and win the day. The final montage is the peak of the episode and there's nowhere within it you could satisfyingly shove a regeneration.
>>
>>70680084
But when would he have regenerated?
>>
>>70679982
The scene in Hell Bent where he loses his memory of Clara would be a better regeneration. They even had a visual reference to Hartnell's regeneration.

The final moments when he breaks down the wall, the Veil would've touched him just as he delivered the final punch. The Veil would die too.

Then he would end up in his TARDIS (as opposed to Gallifrey), on the floor and dying. A companion would be there (they have been separated the entire story and the TARDIS faces destruction unless he gets out of the trap) and he would begin to regenerate

So I just finished pic related.

I thought the whole idea of a miniscope was really cool and enjoyed the main plot, but the whole political intrigue subblot with Kalik and Orum was pointless and really started to get on my nerves by the end. I know the other ano said you're baiting, but it's interesting that you said that. 12 in Series 9 acted so warmly, that i could see people saying he was too human. I disagree, but I could see it.

Whjereas Ten is spefically acting human, and maybe if yo think he's just acting, you might see his "humanity" just shows how alien he is--he has to act human, to get people to relate to him.
>>

10 was more alien. He used to mix French words such as Allons-y! into English spoken sentences, which just proves he didn't have an understanding of human language and vocab and was thus incredibly distant and alien.

12 just speaks in a Scottish accent and has wacky glasses and a hoodie. He's far more human, just more socially awkward. But then again, so are autistic people, and they're still human.
>>
>>70684730
I dunno, Ten never seemed to be just be acting human to me. He seems very clued in to human behavior and social norms prior to and after this. He easily picks up on Rose's hints about wanting to be in a relationship with him during series 2, thinking specifically of the scene in the Satan Pit 2 parter where she talks about them getting a mortgage/living together and he tries to doge the tricky subject.

"Warmly" in comparison to Series 8 12, who was even more prickly. But in Series 9, he basically had some character development, resulting in people saying things like what >>70684812 says about 12.

>>70684812
10's alienness is mostly shown in his rage, and his behaviour in Pompeii (before Donna snaps him out of it.)

>>70685414
>last appearance so let's hope it's a good one.
Because? You're implying she wasn't good?
>>
>>70685242
And Series 8 12 probably would have left Ashildr to die.

It's because of his ruminations of what being the Doctor means during Series 8, and about his responsibility, and whether or not he's being too cold, that Series 9 12 does what he does.

Alternatively, Ten don't really give a damn. What;s scary about him is that he is alien, but he's deluded himself , to into thinning he's being human. That's why he's confused when Joan rejects him in Human Nture--he thinks that he's just like John Smith. It's his confidence in himself, that makes him seem so alien.
>>
>>70685456
Because the two stories she's already been in have been absolutely dreadful. Not down to her of course but both Death in Heaven and The Magician's Apprentice are the two single worst stories of the Capaldi era.

Also Chibnall will probably want to do his own thing with the Master, if he uses the character, and that will probably mean a recast.
>>
>>70685414
Why do you think that? Chibnall is a long time fan, he's just as likely to keep her around as the Master as he is likely to cast a new Master or rest the character. There's no way of knowing what he's gonna do.
