I think the big issue all the people from the Daily Show that have gone on to other stuff have is that on the Daily Show they played it relatively straight. It was one of the things that made the show interesting and different in today's world where everything is done with a nod and a wink.
But since leaving the Daily Show they've all abandoned that and they all come off a smirking, smug pricks that are WAY the fuck too pleased with themselves.
Also, the 'edgy liberal' schtick works under a Republican president, but when they are all just cock sucking the sitting Democrat president 24/7, basically all the comedy is gone.
