Alright, so clearly this is what happened with Arya.
Normally they get faces from dead people because it's easy as fuck, that doesn't mean they can't necessarily get them from living people since the entire process is obviously magical anyway; they aren't literally wearing their faces when they put them on and take them off.
So, what this means is that the Arya in the episode tonight was not actually Arya. The real Arya's test was not simply poisoning some random peasant, it was telling Jaqen about needle and removing the last trace of Stark within her, because of course Jaqen already knew about that shit. Arya's biggest weakness was letting go of her Stark heritage, but the waif's biggest weakness is controlling her bloodlust, pride, and envy, thus the need to test her in regards to Arya.
So, they presented an undeniable reason to allow the waif to kill her and because she could not control her emotions she never realized that the Arya she stabbed was not the real Arya. She completely ignored her training and awareness and never realized the the person she was following was not like the one she was hunting in any respect whatsoever. Thus, next episode, she gets her shit rekt as fuck.
