There is a difference between a horror movie and a slasher movie. You don't need gore to have a scary movie. Poltergeist was one of the best horror movies ever made. Pretty sure it is just PG rated.

It's also more of an adventure-fantasy family flick with a few scary scenes than straight up horror, definitely closer to a PG than an R.
