Were the card summons real, or something, where the antagonists were going to take over the world? Was it solely for the personal glory of the card duelists and there was little else outside a card match?

Also how was that going to work? Was Yugi going to beat Marik the round before and have TWO Egyptian God Cards to Kaiba's one? Was he going to have the obviously more hyped up card Ra, which was a card so mysterious that you had to recite bullshit chants and had a million weird rules attached, against PUNCHY BLUE GUY that Kaiba has?
Or were you going to give the God Card to Kaiba, someone who doesn't even believe in mythical hocus pocus and just likes card games and dragon shaped things? Were you going to let him beat an established arc villain and let Marik's buildup flicker out?
