That's 2 hours I'll never get back. I should have listened to /tv/ about reddit cinéma. I'll be sure to listen to /tv/ more from now on.
>>
>>70328076
what's wrong with the movie, anon?
>>
As soon as I heard him say that he was going to "science the SHIT" out of this, my reddar went of the charts and I immediately destroyed the disc even though it was a Redbox rental.
>>
>>70328278
It's popular
>>
>>70328278
gotta science the shit outta this!!! XD!

fukn reddit, ridley's a hack now
>>
Im literally about to marathon this
>>
>>70328327

>it's a "it's in the book so it is okay" episode
>>
>>70328076

>well, It looks like i gotta reddit the shit out of this
>>
>>70328366
Not an argument.
>>
>>70328278
It's mediocre and a black scientist saving the day is too far fetched even in a sci fi movie
>>
>>70328076
not an argument
>>
>>70328278
It's literally "I fucking love science" the movie.
>>
>>70328366
I have and in the book he was even more insufferable. Still, I liked both the book and the movie, give me some spaceshit and I'm happy
>>
>>70328537
OP here. I enjoy science, but this was a joke. This was pop-science at best. My main problems with it aren't even that though. It's more that everything about it has been done before and the "characters" boil down to being quip-machines. They're also constantly solving problems for the win! and so there's no tension to it and it's obvious what the conclusion will be despite how many contrived, seemingly insurmountable problems prop up every 5 minutes.

>>70328536
ok try this one faggot
>>
>>70328278

No sense of tension or drama. It's like a quip-filled of Man vs Wild set on Mars.

It's not a bad movie, per se, but it falls way, way short of what it was clearly trying to be. The fact that it was up for Oscars is appalling.
>>
>>70328413
It wasn't in the book, retard.
>>
>New Ridley Scott sci fi
>mite b cool
>Chad gets stranded on Mars
>spends two hours quipping
>zero tension
>can't even remember how it ended already because I cared so little by that point

bit of a disappointment for me too
>>
>>70330204
allow me to help
>check me out i'm ironman! xD
>>
also the scene where he's using a wooden crucifix as kindling. such massive fedora alerts were going off in my head at that point.
>>
>>70328076
>Original author visibly cringed when asked if he came up with "we're going to science the shit out of this."
>Uh, n-no. That wasn't in the book.
>>
>>70328278
Literally Quips In Space
>>
>>70330502
What else would you use when literally everything else in the HAB is made not to be inflammable?
>>
>>70328076
Funny, this was an enjoyable 2 hours for me. I guess different people just like different things.
>>
>>70331435
Whatever the writer decides on, which happened to be a single crucifix. I wonder why that is.
>>
>>70331578
There are a few different ways you could choose to take it really. I know that it provided security for him in his time of need though.
>>
>>70331679
>There are a few different ways you could choose to take it really.
I agree though it came across as pandering to me.
>>
>>70331571
Yeah some people enjoy mind provoking works of cinema and other are brain dead morons who enjoy schlok like this.
>>
>>70331775
You meant schlock.
>>
>>70328076
I hated this movie too

>Pathetic comedy
>only good scene was when he was removing the metal inside him at the beginning
>zer stakes for his life cos he worked everything out
>fuckig duct tape works to keep Mars' high stormy winds out
>him becoming Iron Man at the end
>>
>>70328327
I agree. Ridley lost his magic ever since he decided to not release a director's cut of Prometheus
>>
>>70331958
mars doesn't have "high stormy winds."

can't be any worse that listening to "critics" that actually claim this is one of the best movies of the year. pretty unanimously from what I've seen too.
>>
>>70332900
Ryan Renold's Buried is a far better movie than this and that was entierly done in a box for 90 minutes!

>Very high stakes for the main actor compared to Damon's meme acting
>>
>>70332348
>What a horrible idea

/tv/ seems to be pretty spot on about a movie once the shills leave
>>
I didn't like the chinese pandering.
>>
i can only imagine how poorly this movie is going to age.

Come to think of it, why was Elon Musk in Machete Kills, but not at least mentioned somewhere in The Martian...?
>>
It's good. /tv/ hates it because they expected Mark to be a typical nerd not knowing that NASA only takes the most alpha bad asses for missions like this.

The humor was fine, the science was almost entirely solid, and was overall a good time.
>>
>>70333577
It wont even be remembered at all.

Same goes for Avatar
>>
why the fuck was sean bean in this
>>
Just finished marathoning the first 15 minutes of this, what did I think of it?
>>
>>70334661

To make the Lord of the Rings reference.
>>
>>70334701
you like it. you want to watch more.

maybe, but I also don't enjoy redditsploitation flicks so..at least I have that going for me.
>>
>>70330012
Yeah it was, reread it autist
>>
>>70335141

You think anyone here has actually read the book? Or reads?

But yes, it was in the book.
>>
>>70328278
its every "man in life threatening situation has to survive" movie ever except worse.

>problem arises
>gets instantly solved
>new unrelated problem
>gets solved

absolutely no surprises or setups that paid of at a later time.
>>
>>70335267
going in i cynically expected it to just be castaway in space. if only.
>>
>>70335545
The book actually makes fun of cast away at one point.
>>

>not liking reddit cinema

Thank god there was no wife at home drama tacked on. Just a bit of Chinese propaganda.
