To me, this complaint always comes off sounding like "I'm okay with characters who are gay on paper, but it never, ever gets referenced or plays a role in their lives." To a very large degree, LGBT people (much like people of other minority groups) don't really have the luxury of separating their sexual or gender identity from other aspects of their self - it will always play a role, probably a much larger one than they would even want, because the rest of society makes it a big deal at every turn. Everything they do becomes a political statement, or the conscious avoidance thereof.

Because that's all they reduce themselves to. If the first thing you have to say about yourself is your gender identity or sexual orientation then yeah, that's what you'll be reduced to - first those, and then an actual complete person.
Main thing is, are you having an LGBT character for the sake of it or adding it to give the character some detail? If it's the former, that's faulty writing, and just as ridiculous as making a main trait of your character being vegan or some shit. You don't see straight, cis characters being reduced to their sexuality/gender identity so often (sure, you get films like Shame) - and it's specially more rare when you consider that's the vast majority of the population. I get it the Wachowskis probably want to make a statement, but they do it at the cost of their characters and plot. And I feel like a good portion of the audience (maybe the majority, with social media as a sample) likes Sense 8 firstly because of this gimmick and only then because of the plot.

No one really knows why Aml Ameen left. Clayton denied it was because he was transphobic, but that doesn't mean he didn't come out with some other kind of bigotry. It's interesting that only Tuppence Middleton seemed broken up over his departure, so maybe he had a poor relationship with much of the cast to begin with and whatever falling out happened at the table read in Berlin was just the last straw. They seem to like Toby Onwumere, his replacement, quite a bit.

Man, I can't even tell where the story was heading, or who was going to be the main character. The cop got a fair amount of screentime, but so did the tranny, and honestly I have no idea what the plot even was by the last episode it was so tangled.
It's a really interesting concept for a show, but the Wachowskis are probably going to fuck it up as usual by telling everyone it's super deep, and adding layers of garbage on top until it's smothered.
