Ferris isn't meant to be an angel. He's selfish and unthinking but his free-spirited way of living helps open Cameron up into becoming a man, instead of a scared little boy.

Hughes' movies were better when the person watching was represented in them by one of the characters. If you were a Cameron or a Ferris, you might like it more.

The movie doesn't even try to pretend Ferris is some great guy.

He's just a fledgling politico who can easily influence the masses.

Plus we're all pretty sure Matthew Broderick killed a whole family.

It's a shitty movie, it doesn't hold up at all. Ferris IS an asshole, and he thinks everything is a big joke and is smug about it. I can't stand fuckers like him. Almost every scene is cringe worthy in this film, from the museum tripe, to the cameron posing as a rich person to get reservations at a restaurant, to the shitty parade crap.
