Yeah I had some episodes on VHS, pretty based. They were only like 57 minute runtime, so I could convince my parents who were normally strict about letting me watch movies on school nights to let me watch them because they were less than an hour long.
I should really fire the series up on netflix and get a bunch of stills for filename threads. There's so much to work with it's fantastic

Walking with Beasts was actually more interesting and engaging than Dinosaurs, it was also more stylistically interesting and the stories were always more coherently thought out and well plotted, I think maybe because Dinosaurs was the first one they did so there was no precedent for it and many mistakes were made during the production. Walking with Beasts had to depict extinct animals the majority of the audience didn't really know about, so the guys making it put more effort into showing how fascinating these creatures were without being allowed to get lazy and resort to 'wow dinosaurs'. Then again, Dinosaurs was so kind of fresh and revolutionary and paved the way for a couple more good prehistoric life docs (and a load of absolutely shit ones, mostly on the Discovery Channel) that it still matches Beasts.
All in all:
Walking with Dinosaurs = Walkign with Beasts > Ballad of Big Al >> Walking with Cavemen >>> Nigel Marven >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Walking with Monsters
Also Prehistoric Park was actually more fun than any of the previous stuff Nigel Marven did because it actually embraced the kind of ludicrousness of the premise and messed around had a lot of fun with it. It kind of understood that it was basically a kid's show at this point and adults had gotten bored at looking at a man pretending to run away from CGI dinosaurs for 45 minutes. Also Groundskeeper Bob was based.

This is the bane of all documentaries / educational shows nowadays; they ALWAYS have to quickly cut back to some persons face babbling about something we ought to be SEEING.
I remember watching Wild Kingdom when I was a kid and you hardly saw Marlin Perkins at all, just a short clip at the beginning and another at end, otherwise it was all animals all the time.

because it was a massive disappointment and had genuinely terrible science. But mainly because the appeal of WWD and WWB is that they were treating these extinct animals as actual animals rather than cartoon monsters, but WWM just went back on all that and tried to make them as monstrous as possible. Plus all the shots where animals transformed into their descendants were cringy and inaccurate as fuck.

Nah no feathered dinosaurs, though there were a couple of quills on the Ornitholestes and down on the baby T. rex. It is worth watching as it was an earnest attempt to portray that stuff. The use of practicals coupled with CGI made it believable. The Making Of is really interesting with how they pulled some of those shots off. I would kill for an updated series with the new discoveries from the past 16 years.

there's two feathered animals: Ornitholestes in episode two has some quills, and the unnamed enantiornithine bird (identified in the book as Iberomesornis) in episode 4. However despite the massive budget the show had the animators were not yet advanced enough to accurately and realistically animate feathers on the dromaeosaur species featured, despite the shows' scientific advisors pointing out that they probably did have them (they also use the same model for both Utahraptor and Dromaeosaurus).
By the time of the sequel series, Walking with Beasts (2001), the animators could more accurately depict feathers and fur, so you see terror birds and extinct mammals and whatever. There's no excuse however for why the Velociraptors in spin-off special The Giant Claw (2002) weren't feathered, it's just retarded.

It is still a good watch, but has many scientific inaccuracies and no feathers. What makes it real interesting/comfy are the 'stories' they attempt to tell with the dinosaurs. The practical effects are real good and the cgi is still passable. If you like dinosaurs, I'd say give it a watch,

Because Fox executives thought kids wouldn't watch a documentary and rushed out the shitty dub. The 3D Blu release has a VA-free version of the movie and they also do some abridged dialogue-free version narrated by Benedict Cumberbatch as some Museum movie theater offering, though I'm not sure whether it's omnimax or a 4D thing.
