In general the response would have been much better.
McCarthy is already a love/hate proposition and Feig/Wiig have a very specific type of chemistry that works for adult orientated female comedies.
It practically writes itself; New Ghostbusters franchise being passed on (opportunities galore for Lord/Miller meta humor). Evil Wal Mart style corporate Ghostbusting business staffed by jock/alpha michael bay type arrogant operators. Of course turns out they are actually evil and using Ghosts for weapons or led by a Ghost. Plucky underdogs are the only ones who know and can defeat them because no one knows who they are.

The reason behind this "reboot" is because Paul Feig didn't want to have to deal with the "difficulty" (i.e. actually writing) with ghosts being a real, known thing that have been scientifically proven for 30 years.
In the new film, the ghost villain (Rowan? Roland?) causes all the police, military and rescue people that might see his destruction become hypnotized and do a Jim Carrey Mask-style dance number, and afterwards they don't remember anything.
People who have seen it say it's such a rip off of <link related>, Feig must have subconsciously done it, thinking it was original.

Since everyone in here, like everywhere, seem to hate on the movie like they never hated another movie (only based on the trailer, of course), would you please try to explain me why?
I mean, remakes, tons of them. More these days, but always existed. But that's not even the point. The trailer looks decent compared to half of the remakes and adaptations that come out every year. It looks pretty respectful of the original Ghostbusters movie. It's not particularly ugly to look at either.
So yeah, not saying it will be genius, but it could be decent and I don't get the never-seen kind of hate it gets.
Are the director and the actresses hated in the US or something?
I'm sure the real reasons are that conservative fans that can't stand adaptations (where comics fan accept tons of different versions of some heroes), and also probably the whole female cast. He always played a smart ass character, and needed someone wacky to work with. When Chris Farley died, things changed for the worst. He was in Joe Dirt, which was Ok at best.
