I watched in the right state of mind and i really connected with the film's melancholic tone. There was some teenage bullshit towards the end but not enough to ruin the experience.

Its a comprehensive documentary on an entire cinematic genre told in a really engaging way, featuring a load of the key people involved, and documenting the rise and fall
It's also the best and most fun genre, in many ways being ""pure" in that they are films distilled into what moviegoers want, and pumped out to exploit the trends of the time.
With the constraints of low budgets and time to make them, you get these filmmakers that rise to the top and manage to excel despite this and that makes them interesting to me

>>70056256
yeah, i mean, i guess if you just don't enjoy that kind of action flick you could conceivably think that. but the chase sequences and fights are well-crafted, Greengrass's direction in 2 and 3 is perfectly kinetic. their greatest success is consistency in tone, though. there's clear progression and development as the films go on, watching them consecutively leads to a pretty singular experience.

Hello, friends, not a native english speaker, and sometimes comes a moment when I can't quite make up the thing being said, so I ask your assistance.
Here in this short, at 9:25 the girl says something, the guys asks 'What?', and the girl repeats it. Couldn't understand it yet, even though it seems very obvious, but what I hear is 'I start sixteen and you', but that's nonsense. Thanks for any help.

It surprised me when I watched at 13. It was obviously exciting, uplifting and very relatable. It surprised me again rewatching it recently, and getting disappointed in realizing that it isn't such a radical film- or message- as I previously felt it was. It goes out with a whimper not a bang, and it felt bad losing a favorite.
Until a certain point though, it legitimately plays as a dangerous film, and there it is at its best. Also, of course, the soundtrack is great.

Some of the stuff I've been ripping and will probably be uploaded to private trackers at some point.
>>70074260

Anybody go through all the years in films adding them to your seen and to-watch list and get this weird uneasy feeling like you're going through your entire life? Like all these real memories are attached to all these movies I've seen, and going back through each year and looking at all the movies out brings back lots of memories.
Also, it's funny how every year you go back, the the movies you add to your 'seen' list narrow down to childrens movies and the classics.
GO BACK /int/ YOU FUCKING ILLEGAL BOARD CROSSERS REEE

I have to say, I can't relate to this at all.

>>70090129
do you have autism or something? just curious. why did that piss YOU off is the question. you rated them 1 star, so you think they're trash too.
>>70090129

Despite the low ratings, I enjoy most of the films I watch, even if I don't think they are cinematically great, which is the criterion I base my ratings on.
>>70090599
why would you do that.
>>70090235
>do you have autism or something?
>letterboxd general
>>70090692
What do you mean? That's the right approach to this business
>>70090761
I always thought the point of giving reviews on letterboxd was so that people could see which movies you personally enjoyed.
For example, if you enjoyed Iron Man, you give it 3-5 Stars. Then you say what you liked about it.
You don't give it 1 star despite liking it because "Well this movie is trash".
If you didn't enjoy the movie, then you give it 1-2 stars, then you talk about what you didn't like about it.
You don't give it 5 stars because "Wow this movie, the angles, I mean I didn't have a good time at all but man I can tell this is good for some reason".
That's just being a snobby prick who's pretending he has patrician taste.
>>70090916
A real reviewer gives the movies he enjoys good ratings. And movies he doesn't enjoy bad ratings.
If you enjoyed a movie, then say it was trash, you're lying. This whole pretending thing just fosters this shitty pretentious hipster environment that ends up praising trash movies and shitting on decent ones.
>>70090761
>>70090916
I've always wondered where "so bad it's good" movies fall on this scale. Is The Room a 4/5 for it's high entertaiment value or 0.5/5 for it being a objectivily piece of shit of a film
>>70091066
For Letterboxd you give it a good rating and specify in the review that it's so bad, it's hilarious to watch. Because that was your personal experience watching the movie.
Now if your goal is to review a movie so that people can get an understanding on whether they should watch it or not, maybe you'll want to say that the movie is just trash and not everybody may see the entertainment value in it like you did.
>>70090916
There's different ways to enjoy movies. One way is on the level of the script, performances, dialogue, etc. It's also possible to enjoy movies based on how well they use the uniquely filmic elements such as editing, framing, camera movement, sound, etc. to create a vision that couldn't be done in any other medium. There's enough people reviewing and rating movies based on the first set of criteria so I try to take a more elevated approach. Both are valid.
>>70091028
If you're simple. You can enjoy immensely a film, it being one of your top favorites, but for a rating it's a 6/10 or 4/10, 2/10. Maybe you enjoy trash comfy 80's films, then you have a clear case of that. There's no lying, no hypocrisy, it's just knowing that enjoyment and quality are two completely different things. To call it pretentious is bullshit, anybody with the minimal experience should work this way.
>>70091066
The second. The Room is terrible as a film, but it's a good-time terribility.
>>70091194
If I'm going through your Letterboxd page, and I see you rated a movie 1 Star, and if you're my friend(meaning we have things in common and probably similar tastes), I'm going to think. "He didn't enjoy this at all, guess I shouldn't watch it." How else am I supposed to know you secretly enjoyed the movie?
>>70091271
How about watching what you are interested in regardless of what anyone else might think?
>>70091313
why are you here then
>>70091313
I do that and also letterboxd is a social media website and sometimes I like to discover new movies my friends have seen and enjoyed?

>>70091194
>enjoyment and quality are two completely different things
dumbest post of the year award
This isn't a long film, but it feels like it (the tell tale sign of a poorly edited film). I stuck it out, but it did not prove itself worthy of the massive hype. The message was pretty dated (I think the Henry Chapin song is more profound, and that isn't a joke), the story and pace was abysmal, and literally every thought and emotion is spoken as to exclude the need to imply or insinuate anything. At the very end the old guy could have just let it sink in subtly that his daughter-in-law was his only "real" child, but he has to go and literally explain that to the audience, too.
You might notice the janky direction. The dialogue is spoken directly into the camera, which is just awkward, as is the camera lingering on scenes far longer than necessary. I understand why you would do that to stress the importance of a mood or for the dramatic effect, but when you do it for every single scene it comes across as poor craftsmanship.
Nothing really happens until the end, and it is so over-foreshadowed and predictable as to not have any effect whatsoever, and also there is absolutely no character development or discernible character arcs to speak of...I'm not sure how this is possible, but if the Sight & Sound poll of greatest films ever is proof, apparently directors eat this stuff up. Oh, wait, that probably explains most of the films on this list. Nevermind.
>>70091885
There's different ways of enjoying a film, as I explained here >>70091168
>>70090374
but early 2000's were one of the best
>>70091885
I'm absolutely right, mong. They are two different things.
>>70091915
>>70091922
enjoyment of a film doesn't call for a one star rating no matter the type of enjoyment. you're basically creating a false dichotomy between """"lowbrow"""" and """"highbrow"""" enjoyment because you're insecure about liking things that are widely perceived as trash
your post was top retard and you need to be honest with yourself

To talk about films?
Honestly don't understand why people are so rustled.
>>70091967
they're literally not and you don't understand art if you don't understand why you're objectively wrong
>there are closet japanophiles here right now who would defend Ozu to death despite over half his films being not fit to see daylight
>>70092039
If all you want from films is for them to affirm things you believe and have some cool dialogue, good acting, pretty cinematography etc. then that's fine but film can be more than that and I make my ratings accordingly.
>>70092039
this
>>70092198
ur retarded just stop pls
>>70092198
what does that have to do with you being a retard who thinks none of that constitutes enjoyment of a film just as """"more than that"""" can
