Actually the Coens played a lot with the "Doppleganger / Part of your personality / Two sides of the same coin" thing.
Barton Fink is the most obvious example, but Raising Arizona, Miller's Crossing, even No Country for Old Men had these themes.

Not even that anon but the road warrior is objectively superior to the first mad max. Mad max works so much better when he's already mad. In the first one he wasn't until the movie was about 15 minutes from being over.
