It's misunderstood. People go in expecting lord of the rings when Warcraft is so much more. It isnt high fantasy, it IS fantasy. The storytelling, characters, places, lore...they're remarkable. Of course generic critics are going to bash it because it wasnt 3 films made by Peter Jackson simultaneously.

'We are still waiting for a great video game movie. Maybe we’ll never get one, but a film like Warcraft at least makes it feel like we’re buffering for it. This is an honest attempt to recapture the finer qualities of its source material inside of another medium. When it works, it’s a lot of fun. When it fails, it’s merely an average fantasy adventure that focuses too much on familiar plot devices to make a major impact.
But there’s nothing wrong with being great, so long as you don’t suck. And Warcraft doesn’t suck. It’s a flawed but likable adventure that I would happily go on again, preferably as a double feature with The Beastmaster, Legend or Ladyhawke.'

FFXI was better. WoW made MMOs accessible to anyone. Everquest, FFXI, and other MMOs like Anarchy Online were overcomplicated and cumbersome. WoW was streamlined and accessible, hence why it took off.
>>69989671
>Why can nothing take over WoW in the mmo world?
Because WoW was a flash in the pan. It hit at the perfect time when high speed internet was becoming widely available and cheap. It also had a hugely popular RTS series to ride on with a rich, established history. It also casualised the MMO experience and made it very accessible compared to earlier MMO's.
The reason no other MMO has come close to its numbers since is because they've all been making clones of WoW thinking the gameplay is the biggest draw when it was actually the culmination of loads of different factors.
>>69989671
>Why can nothing take over WoW in the mmo world?
Because it's Nirvana. It was game changing when it came out and it spawned dozens of poor knockoffs. Nobody wants to listen to Creed or Nickelback of the old Republic when Kurt is still available on mp3. It's not the best band, but it's the best in its genre.

You have to understand that normalfags don't know anything about Warcraft other than "it's an online thing". Maybe.
Of course they're going to try and compare it to the next similar thing with normalfag appeal.
so it's the nu-hobbit?
Video game movies had 1 (one) chance to break through the mainstream and make a truly excellent film, and they blew it, with the Halo film. It had Spielberg, del Toro, and Blomkamp all collaborating on it, with a script that was FANTASTIC. But the studios started meddling, greed began to shine through in business decisions, and the movie fell apart. Now the cinema gods have cursed video game movies.

MMOs are pretty much done, their selling point used to be I PLAY WITH OTHER PEOPLE, but it's not a novelty anymore and online market belong to casual mobile stuff, shooters or MOBAs.
It also came out in perfect time and now OWNS the market. Even if you make a MMO nowadays you absolutely can't make mistakes, it has to be perfectly polished, have great end-game gameplay, etc. if not - people are gonna leave in a week.
You can compare it to Marvel movies kinda - they had a couple of duds early on, but since they were the first one to do it it wasn't bad, but now if DC/Fox makes a bad movie their whole universe is fucked.

it's a premiere. It's pretty much like a show with actors/directors on scene. It's okay to clap there. NOT at plane landings 'except if it's the first landing of a new plan after 25 years of conception or something) NOT at regular movie ending.

Holy shit, the fucking movie isn't even out yet and you retards are screaming "THE CRITICS EXPECTED TOO MUCH FROM IT! IT'S A GOOD FANTASY MOVIE!" If you shills aren't getting paid for your work then you should kill yourselves immediately.

It's starting
>The epic battle at the center of “Warcraft” isn’t the clash between humans and orcs. That’s just what takes up roughly two hours of screen time. The true conflict comes from filmmakers trying to tell a story with soul and struggling against the inherent ridiculousness of the commodity they’re working with. It shouldn’t take a mage to foresee that this pricey and preposterous adaptation of an online gaming phenomenon was preordained for artistic mediocrity.
This garbage is headed straight into the trash where it belongs. Everyone told you guys for months it was a guaranteed bomb.

Don't worry I'm sure their contract will expire in a couple of weeks and they'll go back to working in their sweatshop for 5 rupee an hour.
