There's an old witch who lives in the woods. If someone you love has been killed and you can't find justice anywhere else, she will call up Pumpkinhead for you in exchange for your soul. Pumpkinhead will go out into the world and tear apart everyone directly responsible for the death of the innocent victim.
He's massive, although sometimes he's just twice the size of a man and sometimes he literally looks like a fucking King Kong/T-Rex sized monster. He's obviously freakishly strong, he tends to NOT harm people who aren't on his list (although he has killed a few people who have attacked him trying to protect someone on his list) and unlike most horror monsters he's really fucking invincible.
He disappears after he finishes his task, or if the person who summoned him is killed, and otherwise bullets, explosions, high speed vehicles, etc. all just bounce off of him. The person who summons him must suffer through nightmarish first-person visions of every murder he commits.
In four movies I think the only time anyone managed to actually harm him was when a posse riddled him with bullets at the end of Pumpkinhead 2, and it barely counts because that was AFTER he had already completed his revenge and was disintegrating anyway.

Doesn't matter whether it's a kid or a grown man. You can flail at someone with a knife like a total retard and still kill them. The reality of a knife fight is messy and unpredictable. You might not know the kid even has a knife. It doesn't work out like a nicely choreographed action movie.
