This is what happens when you write a central storyline (the War of the Five Kings) where you subvert expectations and have the villains win, then clutch on to the surroundng slow burning traditional fantasy stories as a way to give it a proper ending.
That's always been the fatman's loophole, the politics and intrigue literally never mattered. He was just showing you how an accurate representation of how fucked up history plays out and since Tywin's death the political storylines are just window dressing. Agreed. Even with Theon and Jaime's respective arcs being as dumbed down as they are for the show, they're still more interesting than some of the female characters the show keeps rewarding. I rewatched a bit of Season 1 to compare to this season, and it's become worse than The Walking Dead now. Nothing makes sense, character motivations are thrown out the window, no one is speaking like they are themselves.
Why murder the only surviving members of Oberyn's family if you want to avenge his death? How would the people of Dorne see this? Why is it anyone is now able to stab a King, throw a King off of a bridge, openly commit family-on-family murder, etc.. and no one seems to care? None of the peasantry care, no one seems to even be bothered by the fact Winter should be arriving at any moment.
Why do we need to see the Arya vs Smug red head scene every episode for two seasons now? I get it, the red haired girl doesn't like Arya and can beat her up. I get it. You can stop showing me now. "you will never be one of us." Why does this girl have so much pride? Isn't she behaving the opposite of the conditioning applied to acolyte's?
Why does Arya continue to demonstrate her own personality instead of hiding it? Why ask multiple questions which lead down the road of "Why even kill these people anyways, you know?" when your very life hangs on the concept that you have successfully hid your personality and individuality in order to absorb the knowledge and skills of the Faceless Men? Arya gets beaten every day, she's been blinded for months, she's been conditioned to have no individual personality of her own. Where are the other Faceless Men?
