back in 2006 i brought a book which was basically a load of conversations merchant, ricky and karl had through out the years, and even back then they were just trying to push him. it was a pretty good book but now when i read it i just cringe.

He's a comedian, and it's a character. I remember watching a one off sketch with him years ago on TV predating the XFM stuff, where he goes to interview a famous channel 4 news reader (could have been Jon Snow or KGM) at his home and asks him the most inane questions, repeatedly, to the point where the news reader kicks him out.
Can't find it right now but hopefully that will ring some bells for someone.
