Does it bother anyone else that Bloodraven, a man who escaped death so many times, stopped almost all the Blackfyre rebellions, was betrayed by his own house, became the lord commander, and not to mention has greenseer and warging powers (pretty much making him the most powerful entity in westeros), died at the fault of an impatient bitchy kid? Did the writers really think that another white walker battle was the best way to end that character arch?
>>
No, it doesn't.
>>
>>69940804
He didn't immediately kick them all out. Yeah, he said, 'you all must leave,' but then he let them dick around, let Bran warg into the past again, etc.

He deserved what he got.

He needed bran to do that in order to cause hodors retardation, it was how it was always supposed to happen.

So...it was his own fault.

>>
>>69940804
Bloodraven? Do you mean the three eyed crow?
Did we learn anything about him in the show?
Did they ever even say his name or anything about who he was before he became a dude in a tree?
>>
>>69940877
When the Dark King touched Bran's arm, he knew his location. Bloodraven telling them to leave was to protect them, to get them to safety, not to protect himself thinking the white walkers would follow Bran. He knew he was fucked.

Fuck, are people this stupid?
>>
>>69941229
He said he waited a thousand years for Bran
That's pretty much it
>>
>>69940804
>"Welcome to the Cave under the Tree."
>"Before we get started on your Jedi training, there are a few basic saftey rules to cover."

>"No eating or drinking is permitted during warging"
>"In the event of an emergency, please head to the nearest emergency exit"
>"An Alarm will sound if they are opened, please do not lean against them"

Bloodraven needed to work on his emergency preparedness package.
>>
>>69941229
Bloodraven (Brynden Rivers) is synonymous with Three eyed crow.
>>
>>69940804
Show Three Eyed Raven isn't Bloodraven. He said he's been sitting in the tree for 1000 years

Rewatch the episode. The only reason the seal on the cave was broken was because the Night King's mark was on someone inside. If Bran had gotten out, that would have solved the problem for everyone else.

>Fuck, are people this stupid?

When were the names Bloodraven or Brynden Rivers said in the show?

>died at the fault of an impatient bitchy kid?
It is a closed loop. He knew it had to happen to maintain the right path of history.

Fuck time travel stories.
>>
>>69941444
>If Bran had gotten out, that would have solved the problem for everyone else.

We have no idea how it actually works, maybe once the mark was inside he could come in anyway
>>
>>69940804
He's not Bloodraven. When was it mentioned that he was Bloodraven?

And he wasn't betrayed by his own house, he was sent to the wall for murdering someone- his own kin, actually. He was never actually a real Targ in the first place. He also only stopped the first Blackfyre rebellion, how did he stop the others? Dunk stopped two, and I forgot what happened in the last one.
>>
What im wondering if the next episode if bran now knowing he can do stuff in the past to effect the future will he not warg anymore to not fuck shit up? unless its the lyanna tower of joy scene
>>

Well it seems like it's a closed loop, so it doesn't matter what he does in the past, it's already happened anyway. The ink is dry.

We know there's gonna be another Tower of Joy scene at least
>>
>>69941532
On second thought, I remember he got Dunk out of that well.

In A Dance with Dragons in Bran's chapters he literally tells Bran he's Brynden Rivers and when Bran has inner monologues in the books he refers to him as the Bloodraven which Rivers was famously called. If that's not enough for you he has Bryden River's exact description; ghostly pale, one eye, red eye from being an albino by birth.

Is this a scene from a vision or something?
Because this guy looks like a wealthy, elderly gentleman (aka max von sydow), not a half dead husk with a tree growing through his body.

I honestly don't care what D&D change at this point, but feel just a little sad for the showfags who are left with this generic old dude instead of Bloodraven
>>
>>69941444
We don't know that. The mark may have just negated the magic in the cave keeping the Walkers and Wights out
>>

It is from a vision, but he looks like that in the tree as well.

What makes you think the Three-Eyed Raven had foreknowledge about Hodor? Hodor's retardation can happen regardless of whether the Three-Eyed Raven foresees it or not. But if he did know it was so urgent, he's a fucking idiot for not getting it over with much earlier (and also for not warning Bran about the danger of contacting the White Walkers in a vision). If he didn't know, he's a fucking idiot for thinking random Winterfell memories were more important than immediately getting Bran out of the cave. But based on D&D comments on the episode, I think the latter case is more likely. Hodor becoming retarded was just an accidental necessity.

I don't think he's really dead. I bet that the next time Bran uses the weirwood trees to see into the past, Bloodraven will be there. He's been part of the trees for so long, that he's become one with them in mind.

pretty much this
the first three books are the only good ones
>>
>>69942474
>But if he did know it was so urgent, he's a fucking idiot for not getting it over with much earlier
The whole reason Hodor became Hodor was because the WW were attacking them in that instance in the present. Bran couldn't have just gone to Hodor a few days before and said "Oh Hodor make sure to hold the door" because it wouldn't have had the same affect on him.
>>
>>69942542
>The ink is dry. He can't change history, he just has to play his role in the loop
If that's the case, then it doesn't matter whether he foresaw ANYTHING whatsoever. Completely irrelevant. It's all going to happen regardless. No danger of Hodor fizzling away like Marty from Back to the Future. However, if foresight does affect his actions, then in this timeline it should lead him to make Hodor retarded sooner.
>>
>>69942680
It's pretty much GRRM's reaction to the LOTR story

>Well why are the orcs working for Sauron
>Where did the orcs come from
>Why do the good guys all work together
>Why don't they show the rape and pillaging in fantasy stories
>why are the "bad guys" the bad guys? why is it le epic battle of good vs evil

Yes, I know that the silmarillion exists and that LOTR is supposed to be Tolkien's story of a great epic battle, GRRM's books are just supposed to be le realistic political intrigue injected into a cliche fantasy story
>>
>>69942844
>If that's the case, then it doesn't matter whether he foresaw ANYTHING whatsoever.
Why do you think so many people are pissed? That's the problem, nothing matters in a closed loop.
>>

>>
>>69942821

Bran HAD to turn Hodor into a retard, a person with a brain wouldn't have carried the little twat around.
>>
Isn't Brann the most powerful warg ever? He basically mind-controlled someone from the past, that's fucking impressive.
>>
>>69943019
Well I'm not saying why he became Hodor, I'm just saying he wouldn't have become Hodor unless the WW were attacking. If the WW never attacked Hodor couldn't have become Hodor and therefore, couldn't carry him around (as you suggest) nor hold the door to save his life at the end, because going back in time and just telling him to "hold the door" wouldn't have taken the same effect.
>>
>>69942821
What "effect" are you talking about? To me it seems the most important thing is that Hodor became retarded and warg-able by Bran, preventing him from living some other life (which would've made him unavailable for escorting Bran to the cave/protecting him). Hodor only held the door because Bran was warging him, forcing him to do it, right? Not like he was self-aware of some duty to hold the door, imposed on him since childhood.

Past Hodor was linked with the present. How or why, I'm not sure, but in the moment of pic related is when Meera started shouting at present Hodor to hold the door, and simultaneously when he started getting stabbed. Look back to past Hodor and he's shouting Hold the Door (which is being shouted at him) and flailing around on the ground like he's getting stabbed. I'm sure this would have an effect on someone.
>>
>>69943427
oh, i thought there was real foreshadowing.

Didn't realize penis/child abuse jokes.
>>
>>69943428
eh, not quite i don't think.

Hodor was only stabbed once at the very end. I think the meeran crossing through the linked time line actually gave Hodor a real seizure.
>>
>>69943529
Yeah most probably. I don't think his seizure was due to him getting stabbed, just what it looked like. But if he was linked to future Hodor in some way, feeling yourself getting randomly stabbed and attacked I'm sure would effect you in some way, post-seizure I mean.
>>
>>69943428
So Bran somehow understood warging Hodor in the past, at that exact moment, would have that exact effect? Or else, he thought he would be able to warg present Hodor via past Hodor, but wasn't able to?
>>
People are forgetting that Brann was warging WHILE warging into the past.

That's bound to fuck up things.
>>
>>69943643

I don't think Bran did it intentionally. Meeran just screamed it out through time and something in him just kind of did it.

I just rewatched that part and Bran is genuinely confused when past hodor's eyes go white. Bran has no idea what is happening.

3ER just brought him here to this specific memory because he knew this needed to happen to save Bran. A plan 40 years in the making.

No because none of that has been mentioned or alluded to in the show, which is and has been for a long time an entirely separate entity from the books. As far as the show was concerned he was just some wise old sage that Bran needed to learn some things from. That's it.

I consider him far crueler then any other character in the show.
>>
>>69944324
Came here to say this, this is where the show is going with it
>>
>>69945306
In the books it's pretty evil how he controls Hodor too
>>
>>69943840
Bran wargs into present Hodor while in the vision, to wake him up for their escape. This doesn't immediately affect Wyllis in the past. Only when Hodor needs to hold the door, does Wyllis get warg'd and fall into a seizure. I think this was either because warging both past/present Hodor simultaneously strengthened Bran's control over him, or else Wyllis getting warg'd was just a consequence of remaining in the vision for too long. But it seems clear Bran was in fact warging Hodor while holding the door.
>>
>>69945455
Hodor's actor said he was sacrificing himself for his friends, so I think it's Hodor in charge whilst he does it.

Maybe he finally got his self awareness back in that moment, and knew what he was doing
>>
>>69944324

How could he be Bran in the future? He dies in the present, when Bran is a teenager. They can send their minds back in time, not their bodies. At least so far.
>>
>>69945603
I think this whole thing is unclear enough for his actor to have been confused. It would make more sense dramatically for Hodor to hold the door himself, but it really doesn't seem like that's how things played out.
>>
>>69945745
I sort of interpreted it like

>Bran warged into child Hodor and was just making him think/hear HOLD THE DOOR over and over again so it was imprinted so much that he'd know to do it in modern day

But yeah it's hard to portray exactly what's going on internally on screen
>>
>>69945818
>Bran warged into child Hodor and was just making him think/hear HOLD THE DOOR over and over again so it was imprinted so much that he'd know to do it in modern day

But that makes it sound like kindly coaching.

Bran turned Hodor into a retarded pack-horse of a human, fucking up Hodor's entire life just so Hodor could be used as a doorstop, and then die horribly at a time that helped out Bran.
>>
>>69945818
That would be rather cruel. Also extremely unlikely, since Bran's facial expressions painted him out as a sad spectator to the whole thing.
>>
I haven't watched any of this season yet. Please don't say Bran's whole greenseer thing is actually having an effect on past events.

I was hoping it would stick to simply being able to see things in areas where there were Weirwoods - the tree Internet thing.

Even if it's a closed loop, I'm not liking the sound of this.
>>
>I'll show you the dark side
Man, Maxy just can't catch a break, can he
>>
>>69940804

>bran goes to past
>bitch screaming hold the door
>past hodor goes warg mode and starts spazzing out
>past/present hodor completely fucked up

this proves that bran's greenseeing abilites can literally change the past/present or atleast influence the past/present.

why didnt bran go back into the past and influence the children of the forest and stop them from creating the white walkers?

bravo d&d
>>
>>69945983
>>69945818
Why are you all assuming Bran had any control over this?

He was in the past with 3er, heard Meera shouting that they needed Hodor, didn't quit to main menu from the tree for some reason but instead warged past Hodor to get up and start dragging him away, then unwarged as you can see Hodor has normal eyes while dragging him along the corridor.

Then at the door, Meera starts screaming for Hodor to hold the door, which travels back through Bran to the past, causing Hodor's past self to experience present Hodor and become traumatised. Meanwhile present Hodor, realising he's living his own death which he experienced before, accepts his fate and sacrifices himself willingly.
>>
>>69946214

>>69946214

>>69946257
Hodor's eyes never remain white while warg'd. Look at the Season 4 scene where Bran wargs him to kill Locke. They only briefly flash white.

Well, that's probably the way our reality works too. Though shit.
>>
>>69946412
yes but you can clearly see that hodor is scared while being grabbed, wich doesn't happen when warged.

I fully support this and is my new copypaste.

>Meera starts screaming for Hodor to hold the door, which travels back through Bran to the past, causing Hodor's past self to experience present Hodor and become traumatised. Meanwhile present Hodor, realising he's living his own death which he experienced before, accepts his fate and sacrifices himself willingly.
>>
Why doesn't he warg into a giant eagle and fly everyone to safety?
>>
>>69941924
I have no idea what blood raven is supposed to look like but he's one of the only talented actors on the show

But you need to accept the fact Hodor's life was a living hell. His brain was fried and he was turned into a pack animal forced to carry around the person that made him retarded, forced to carry Bran as Bran guided him to the spot of tormented Hodor's death.

And there's always the possibility Hodor goes back in time and has to keep living his hellish life over and over, all because he was standing in the wrong place at the wrong time in Winterfell one cold day.

Bran was a cunt in the books too

"It was not like sliding into Summer. ... This was harder, like trying to pull a left boot on your right foot. It fit all wrong, and the boot was scared too, the boot didn't know what was happening, the boot was pushing the foot away. He tasted vomit in the back of Hodor's throat, and that was almost enough to make him flee." - A Storm of Swords - Bran IV "Like a dog who has had all the fight whipped out of him, Hodor would curl up and hide whenever Bran reached out for him." - A Dance With Dragons - Bran III (HBO)
>>
>>69948156
What if they actually swapped places?
Retarded Hodor went to his young self, forced to live an eternal bucle inside a retard while young Hodor died holding the door, without understanding what the fuck was going on.
>>
I don't even know what the narrative purpose is of the guy. (in the show).

Everything would be exactly the same if Bran's crew simply stumbled into the cave with the children and he warged by touching the roots.

Bloodraven was not needed at all.
>>
>>69943643
Bran's consciousness is rooted in the present, so when he was told to warg into Hodor by Bloodraven he simultaneously linked the future and past versions of Hodor. All of that information from the link, and the experience of death, caused Hodor to go full retard.
>>
>>69948156
That's all speculation dude.

He could as well forget everything after the seizure and live normally as a retard, and stayed with the starks and with Bran because he was a loyal servant
He could remember why he had the seizure and live as a retard because he embraces and understood his fate.
He could remember why he had the seizure and live as a retard because he was a loyal servant
He could forget everything after the seizure and stayed because future Bran compel him

None matters. I just happen to like the one that support that pasta, he just forgot everything with the seizure, like a reset button, but care for Bran for a hidden memory or deja vu that he was important in his life.
>>
>>69948495
Bran would have stayed in the visions
>>
>>69948320
this is what I understood too
>>
>>69948495
In s5 he was teaching him off screen how to do it. And he helps spout exposition to the audience e

>He needed bran to do that in order to cause hodors retardation
what is this meme
>>
>>69948551

Yeah but you could easily write it so that he doesn't.

I mean Bloodraven's purpose in life for all those years was to just tell Bran to not stay too long in the visions? That's his entire teaching right there?
>>
>>69948522

How about, do you agree Hodor's life would have been much better had the Brain-Melt incident never happened? He could have lived a normal stable-hand life, meet a girl, had a family. But now he ended up a retarded pack-animal because Bran didn't follow TreeGuy's advice and brought the Night King to their hideout.
>>
>>69948657
Well.
He also teached him how to turn someone into a retard and to not let the spooky blue guy touch him.

Of course. That still doesn't make Bran the bad guy. The warging really looked like an accident, caused by his stupidity, but accident at last.
In universe, not worse than a lot of stuff bound to happen.
Like a guy seeing his own death if he carries on with helping Bran, and still doing his part, and, of course, dying. Yes, pottery.

Fair enough. :)

he got retarded because he saw the moment of his own death

Why did Bran even go check out the NK dude

like what are you going to get from that

unless the NK hacked into bran's tree, put a trojan in it and knew his travel plan so he intercepted bran en route to the past or summin
>>
>>69946257
it makes sense
>>
How many times did Hodor panic when Eddard said "hold the door for us"
>>
>>69945999
>>69946257
This is the correct way to interpret the episode.

Anything that is like "Bran is cruel because he made it happen" theories are just people playing around with a show's morality for the sake of trolling or just to be contrarian.
>>
Bran accidentally gave Hodor a future dream where he sees his own death

Past Hodor's eyes go white but he's clearly not warged into because he's still in a seizure. Then the quick cuts back and forth to his death; he's literally seeing his own death while writhing on the ground

That fried his brain not some magic time bending mind connection

I can't stop thinking about how Summer went out so pathetically. Just went ahead and jumped right into a crowd of wights and was pretty much dead before he even hit the floor. They could have at least let him rip some arms off before dying

or something.

Its like the writers were like "Shit, he still has his dog doesn't he? What are we going to do with his dog? Fuck it, kill it"

It was 100% intentional. Bran will be the warg savior of the 7 kingdoms.

why was that supermodel frogposter so adamant about waking up Bran before fleeing? that nigga isn't gonna run with you anyway what difference did it make if he was still snoozing, just start carrying
>>
>>69951251
So he could warg into Hodor... Two(?) seasons ago Hodor was pretty good at fighting after Bran warged him.

I really think Bran didn't intend for this to happen, it was 3ER who brought Bran there in the first place, apparently *only* so that this Hodor thing could happen.

3ER said "It begins..." to the Knight's King when he saw him, right? Makes me think this was his plan all along, to get Bran marked and start the plot moving.

What did Jon say to that guy before he left the Wall? "Don't let it fall down while I'm away?" Makes me think that the Wall will actually fall down due to Bran crossing the Wall and the Knight's King being able to follow him.
>>
>>69949969

It's not that Bran is intentionally cruel, it's just that the outcome, whether predestined or not, is cruel.
>>
>>69945306
>>
Bran is such a fucktard, there is already a ton of people who died just for his sake already.
>three eyed raved
>the two farmer boys Theon turned into charcoal
>that other boy who could warg, his sister will probably die soon as well
>his wolf
>hold the door
>all those dryads
>other shit I forgot

This little fucker better be worth it.
>>
>>69954164
they accepted their deaths, they wanted to help him, its not like bran forced em.
