No. There was 4000 years of peace before the Long Night. But the pact was really unfair to the children.
The entire last fifteen minutes were amazing, and the last few minutes were the cherry on the top. My mouth was hanging open, my eyes were wide and teary, I was shivering with goosebumps.
I honestly feel like that was the most emotional death scene of the entire show so far. Never before have I felt such dread. I think the only thing that comes close is the Red Wedding, but I already knew that's what was coming.
Maybe because we haven't reached this part in the books, it was more shocking. Either way, kudos to the director, writer and showrunners. That scene was intense. Not to mention, GRRM, for such a distressing and traumatic twist for (although a fan-favourite) a minor character. It seems a lot of people seem to be saying that the "hold the door" theory is common knowledge and everyone believes it, but this was the first time I ever came across it so..I'm super glad.

Possibly, the COTF realized that they can just fuck over First Men while they were fighting the Andals.
