Yeah Studio ADI did it and they've uploaded a lot of the practical behind the scenes stuff to youtube. If I remember correctly, he almost didn't come back to direct because of legal stuff, then when he did, he said it was going to be 2 parts. Then New Line said they were gona take the appendecies or what ever you call them and make up a new movie for the third movie, and Jackson didn't like that as it would be awful, so he worked with new line to combine that movie into the hobbit 3 parts and also direct it to have a consistent vision. They also pushed onto him the 60fps idea because of how avatar made so much money but he was able to talk them into 45 frames since that would be less likely to give you a head ache in action scenes.

Outdated as all hell and at certain points pretty sensationalist. Not just talking about mere harmless speculation here, but stuff like the blue whale-sized Liopleurodon or that T. rex model whose anatomy is so off that there's no way to fit an actual T. rex skeleton in it.
I once went digging for old reactions on the net from the time when it was first shown on TV, and even some of the scientists and artists who had worked on it hated it. Even BBC couldn't disregard all the criticism, so they later redubbed the show with new narration which changed some of the original's claims.
