The intro scene of It Follows was better then the rest of the whole thing but still
Discuss.
What's with the cross?
>>69818334
It follows was terrible and the babadook while a good flick wasn't scary in the least bit.
>>69818391
YOU'RE not scary in the least bit.
The Witch is the only true kino here.
Babadook was a drama about depression and It Follows was just some lame analogy about having kids.
Are there any good upcoming 'scary' movies? I haven't really heard anything anything, but I don't look hard either.
Also, it follows should have been more gory. That scene with the dudes mom raping him was kind of comical.

>>69818334
What's the next addition gonna be?
babadook was terrible.
babadook was fucking trash
I don't know why, but everytime I see someone praising It Follows I get triggered like a tumblr user
This movie is just so damn bland, except for the great intro scene
Witch and Babaduks are actually pretty good
>>69819316

I actually think Oculus is better than It Follows and Babadook. It's very underrated. I uniquely tells a story that isn't just a slasher or paranormal movie. One of the scariest things I've seen in a movie was how they're unaware they're being manipulated.
What about V/H/S? Just the first one, of course.

>>69827580
i don't give a shit about the corny metaphors in these flicks
babdook was at least well made and kinda made you care about the mother
it follows is atrocious
Babadook - Really boring. I barely remember anything about besides a girl in the beginning sitting on a bench in miniskirt who I want to make love to.
The VVitch - Pretty good/10. I kept expecting some ebin plot twist about how the witches were metaphorical or something and it never happened. Good ending. Good flick. Well acted.
It Follows - Watchable movie but not really scary. Several fappable girls. Dope OST. I'm still confused by the clamshell kindle thing.
I dont get it
Is it VVitch or Witch?

>>69829126

>>69829165
i guess it follows because it's the only one that has a genuinely scary scene, the one where the giant tries to enter the room
>>69818334
Babadook is sad (poor mom having a bad day), annoying (fucking kid) and mildly funny (mom telling the kid to eat shit). But it's not scary.
>>69818334
The Witch wasn't scary in the least. And there was all of this hype about how it was so disturbing and one reviewer said something like "I feel like I'm watching something I'm not supposed to see" and it was just so fucking boring. It had promise early on with the Witch abducting the baby.. erm... Doing what she did to him... But seriously that was the scariest part and it was just kind of a shocking moment, not really a moment designed to convey fear.
It Follows was pretty good. IMO the most enjoyable of these three movies. The soundtrack was awesome and I liked the monster concept. Could have been scarier but whatevs.
The Babadook is one I really enjoyed too, but damn was it depressing. And holy fuck was the kid annoying. From an artistic standpoint, maybe the best of these three in terms of imagery.

Also the Babadook was terrifying to me. I have mental breakdowns and shit sometimes so it was very unsettling to me. Becoming the monster, YOU being the threat to your child. It fucked with me.
Just finished the Witch actually. Quite liked it but wasn't scared at any point cause the atmosphere wasn't right. (Daylight; people popping in and out of my room. Phone going off, etc etc)

Eh.
It Follows was great on a first watch but after seeing it again I realize how cringey the dialogue is.
Babadook is an overrated piece of shit. Annoying kid with lame use of audio and a up its own ass metaphor.
The Witch is fantastic. I know feminist love it but they'll love anything with a girl surviving a nightmare. They missed the big picture of the film, as it dealt with religious guilt in a family.

What does the title card say? "A New England Folktale". It's not meant to be ambiguous or complicated. Think of it like you're being told a story at bedtime or in a classroom. The movie has a very straightforward lesson.
What's the first scene in the movie? William think he's better and more pious than the village counsel, and says he's happy to be banished. This leads directly to his baby being kidnapped. He ignores this and ignores that his wife is beside herself with misery because of his actions.
The movie is mostly a catalogue of his lies and hypocrisy and how his poor example spreads to the rest of the family. He lies constantly, about the cup, about hunting, and encourages also his son to lie, even as he tells him to memorize how his soul is riven with sin. Even his baby is filled with sin, in his mind, yet the sin we witness is his constant hypocrisy.
Things spiral out of control. The children accuse each other, but only because they've learned how to lie for their own safety when convenient, and out of a sense of real danger that their parents will harm them if they're found to be consorting with the devil. They're right to turn on each other! It's only natural in a house as mad as this.
The father dies, killed by Black Phillip. Why does he accept his death? "Corruption, thou art my father".
And so Thomasine, left with nothing, turns to the only source of authority and shelter left to her: the evil present in the house. But they had every chance to turn away from evil, to scorn hypocrisy. They didn't.
So what's the moral of the story? False piety is no substitute for moral substance. Very straightforward, very unambiguous.
Anons I come to you beseeching, what makes your fav horror movie your fav? I know it's a culmination of things but if you could make it into a few sentences I'd appreciate it.
>not watching the true modern spookino

>>69833655
It needs to be made with passion. How cool it looks or how high is the budget or how many stars it has doesn't matter. It just needs to be obvious that everyone involved gave it all. While new ideas are appreciated it doesn't have to be original at all. On the contrary. You don't have to reinvent wheel. Sometimes it's better to stick to old formulas and instead of trying to improve them with forced epic twists, just keep the old cliches/tropes. But do them flawlessly.
