A lot of 80s fantasy comedies are being hugely overrated now because their audience of the day are getting nostalgic. same goes for Back to the Future or TMNT. You can see a lot of people talk ing about it like the pinnacle of cinema when really they are all okay films.

1) Alien was written first, then some of the roles were cast as women. Which is the exact opposite of this "...but WITH WOMEN" approach to Ghostbusters. 2) The movie didn't prominently feature Ripley in advertising. She was the least known of the whole cast.
