Why was Futurama so good at inducing feels?
>>
Because it's good.
>>
Because it was being run by professionals who gave a shit.

The dudes running R&M need to take notes. Their attempt at 'feels' with Rick's half-assed suicide attempt tacked onto the end of an episode was so hamfisted you could hear it oink.
>>
>>69776987
Because it was the lifeboat for all of the good writing that was falling off on the Simpsons.
>>
This episode was much better than the dog one.
>>
>>69776987
Because they didn't pull them out of their ass.

They made sure to lay an emotional framework, put in some foreshadowing, then revealed the punch.
They earned the feels.

Most other shows that try this shit just have something happen out of nowhere and show the characters looking sad while playing some depressing music.
>>
>>69776987
The Simpsons was even better at that.

>implying I didn't get teary-eyed when retard Rick stood out in the rain

He just wanted to belong
>>
>>69779243
That says more about your pathetically low standards than any achievement from the creators.
>>
They arent always. When the show came back I remember they tried another sad montage with a sappy song about Hermes looking out for Bender all his life and it was cheesy as fuck. Not good.
>>
>>69780373
Lethal Inspection was in later seasons, and if you want Bender and feels, watch Godfellas episode

Yep, I watched Futurama so many times I actually remember episode names
>>
Because it was a comedy so all sad parts stand out.
>>
>>69776987
Well, it was made by a huge Star Trek TOS fan.
>>
>>69780373
Bender's Big Score was a huge sign Futurama's new standards will be much, much, much lower.

I mean, most of its jokes are bad, and the movie suffered from some typical Zombie Simpsons problems like characters appearing out of nowhere (how did Fry find out his friends were in the park?)
>>
>>69780597

SUCH A NERD XD
>>
>>69780597

I know it was in later seasons that's why I said "When the show came back".

Godfellas is great but never got any feels from it.
>>
>>69780373
We don't discuss zombie Futurama here.
>>
>>69780373
>how i am gonna find some 'anonymous' guy...

matt groening must have visit /b/ time to time i guess
>>
>>69780692
Would you have rather it wasn't made? Or just have it been the conclusion of Futurama production?

Of all the "movies" BBS was probably the best of the three
>>
>>69780373
Post movie episodes are different, and play precisely into the bad forced feel stereotype.

The Hermes one is particularly bad when you compare it to the luck of the Fryish, since it comes right out of nowhere.

We know Hermes is, with the exception of his close family, incredibly callous and bordering on anti social.
His "feel" moment simply felt out of character; Everything Hermes has done has shown that he wouldn't give a flying fuck unless his family was involved somehow.

Contrast this to luck of the Fryish.
Everything about Fry's character centers around the fact that, while he has adapted to the future, a part of him always misses the past and can't move on. He's always been shown to have family issues, even if he does love them, and to have had a wide eyed view of space and sci-fi.
Luck of the Fryish worked because they played into all that.
We knew Fry was tearing up at the end was not only because he realised his brother always cared, but because he was directly part of a legacy he'd always dreamed of.

I'm not a Futurama fan, I'm only a Simpsons fan (although I can enjoy some good Futurama episodes here and there), and my memories about Futurama are very fuzzy, but think about it.

Most Simpsons fan will tell you the show started falling apart around Season 8-9. I think the process started in Season 6 (it's an awesome season, and yet I always prefer to watch anything from S2-5 rather than 6, I still don't know why), and 7 was already weak and repetitive and lazy (at least for Simpsons standards).

For me, it would have been better than The Simpsons ended in S6, as a flawless show. But it didn't end at S6, it has a weak season, then a mediocre season, then a bad season, then 18 godawful seasons.

Good things, when short, are twice as good.

Maybe Futurama's original run could have been a little longer, but seriously, most animated show are a pale imitations of themselves when they reach their fourth season.

Also, I'm not familiar with Futurama writers, but am I correct when I say most of the original writing staff wasn't involved in the post-cancellation years? That would explain a lot.
>>
>>69777138
Why are you comparing both shows?
And that was humor you idiot, not feels, feels was Rick turning himself in to allow his family to go home.

They should have left well enough alone, this was a great way to end the series
>>
>>69776987

When I first watched that episode, the reveal hit me in the feels like a truck.
>>
>>69781566
It also does not help Futurama has a boring animation since day 1. Wasn't Futurama started when The Simpsons was as its tenth or eleventh season? By that point, even the animation of pre-Zombie Simpsons was sterile and utterly boring.
>>
>>69776987
how difficult is it to make an audience of emotionally inmature people sad?

Fururama got amazing precisely when the Simpsons got shit
>>

Groening is possibly one of my favourite writers in terms of personality.
He has excellent taste and golden era Simpsons and Futurama are GOAT.
>>
>>69783982

motherfucker

i had managed to hold back the tears until now and you come up with this
>>
>>69776987
The feelings of manchildren are easily manipulated by the most tripe of tropes
>>
>>69787648
This. I absolutely cannot stand Futurama and I'm assuming so many people think it's a "feels" show because 1) it forces it so fucking hard and 2) because its primary demographic does not otherwise watch media with any affecting moments.
>>
>>69787648
>>69787733

What's your fucking problem?

>and he broke my hand
>his legacy lives on
>>
>>69787733
>forced
You keep using that word
>>
>>69787931
Sorry, what I meant by forced is that it panders to retards who only consume trash media and aren't normally exposed to events within stories that a normal human without a broken brain would find affecting, so when they do find one of these moments in their retarded ass Sci-Fi Simpsons it's like a fucking revelation because they've never felt anything before

Haha
>>
>>69788233
So you mean you have no comprehension of the English language?
Sounds pretty fucking dumb to me, senpai.
>>
Because it had character you cared about, not just carton cutouts that spew out random things.
>>
>>69788233
>it's an anon projects episode
>>
>>69776987
it started off great with the doggo and the clover episodes. even the robot hand one was nice.

but my god in the recent seasons they just tried to make everything a feel episode it was absolutely disgusting.

So you think it'll come back?
>>
>>69776987
The original run was

The CC ones were like Simpsons and were more interested in not-subtle social messages than telling a good story
>>
Character development. I really connected with Fry, before the last season which was absolute crap. I liked him better trying to get Leela and trying to understand the year 3000.
>>
>>69788951
I don't think so, it had a pretty solid ending, it wouldn't make the shows earlier seasons any worse though.
>>
>>69780958
The Devil's Hands Are Idle Playthings is the perfect ending to the entire show, thematically and storywise.
Everything that came after is shit.
>>
>>69781530

They used the wrong version of "Hurt"
>>
Because it only had like two episodes with actual feels out of it's entire (original) four seasons.

One of the best scenes. Bender making jokes about women
>>
>>69789157

It was perfect. It so neatly resolves Leela & Fry's love story. Kinda think the writers knew how they were going to end Futurama from early on.
